Road Work Problems...hurting My Z
So Im not sure what part of the forum this is supposed to go...but...
Recently, My town that I live in for whatever reason, Oiled and Graveled our roads we live on. It extends for 3miles... Now they do this almost everyother year...this year they didnt smooth anything out and there are hunks of gravel in my road. Not only is my car taking a beating but it looks like i just went drifting through an IRAQIE Desert!!!...So My question is...
Is there a way i can make the town pay for the damages my vehicle may incure or the car wash's i frequently have to get because of how dirty the car gets?
I know there has to be a law or loop hole... I live in NY state and I live in Cattaragus County if that information helps?
Thanks,
Ryan

They call that chip seal, it has safety issues for stopping distances, wrecks the finish on cars and is a complete waste of your tax money. I would start going to counsel meetings and hit on those points. If a road surface is not safe and ruins cars they might as well use mayonnaise.

This was taken from a article in the city of Phoneix
If you do some reserach on google about alternatives you might have a shot in city council
Despite the success of the chip seal program, it was discontinued in 1989 because of potential damage to cars by loose chips or gravel. In 1989, the city began using an asphalt rubber hot mix to add a one-inch overlay to prolong the life of streets. This product was shown to have a number of advantages:
• It does not reflect cracks from the existing pavement;
• It is more durable and skid-resistant than conventional asphalt; and,
• It reduces traffic noise and provides a smooth, quiet ride.

Try sending a email to the City Civil Engineer as he is probably the one who decides what they use for the streets. At the very least he would be able to point you in the right direction.

There is also a lot of construction in my area. I was passing under a bridge the other day and one of the jack hammers sent a large chunk of rock across my window chipping it.
They do the same **** to a ton of roads around here too. NY is cheap on it's roads.

Ha, I could go on and on about that crap.
They do that here in OR as well. I've almost crashed twice as a result. Once was on a back road that I was tearing up where, with no warning, the solid ground changes to oily gravel, in the middle of a corner. Needless to say that was a little interesting.
2nd was when one of the oil trucks accidentally leaked a **** load of oil right at a stop light. Luckily I was already going slow when I got up to the stop light, because as soon as I hit that stuff the ABS went crazy and I nearly skidded into the intersection. Taking off was fun too. Was like driving on ice.
Then of course, there is all the gravel I'm flinging as I drive.
