Question Warranty

Yo, my factory warranty just ran out and I was wondering what you guys think about the extended warranty they sent me in the mail. Its $2K and it covers my Z up to 100k miles. I figure since I have an 03' it may be worth it, considering if I need a new tranny it would pay and so on. I really don't know if I will utilize the $2k. What do you guys think?

I would buy one, just because you never know what may happen.

I would only do it if your 100% positive your going to keep the car that long..

Then again you can always cancel the policy and get back some of your money if you ever do sell your car..

Don't you have to buy those BEFORE the factory warranty expires?

I've been debating the same issue, I am currently looking for a 2005 350Z and I want to purchase the extended warranties I think. I'm afraid of getting a used car out of warranty also because I am a perfectionist.

For 2k or even for 1k, I wouldn't never again buy an ext warranty! My reason: Twice now ext warranty has been refused. One was a spun bearing and the other the tranny (auto) went out. Both said I abused/raced the car and whatever else they could come up with. The spun bearing I had just changed the oil the previous day so it was new, they accused me of adding oil after the fact. The tranny issue they said had metal shavings and that the fluid looked burnt. I fought, I got nowhere. For the wasted time & money and stress I could have just had someone fix it.

An extended warranty is a money maker – for the seller. As stein mentioned, any warranty is only as good as the party who writes it. Getting free warranty work is filled with loop holes.

2k is ridiculous. what really gets you is the time, not the mileage since the Z doenst really get that many miles, unless you drive it far every day. i bought a 5/75k warranty for around $600. had a window realign problem recently, and the dealer said it wasnt covered.... since it wasnt a dead motor, it was an "alignment" problem which isnt covered under warranty. tomorrow im going to bring it in for the tsb on rear axle clicking... if they dont fix it, ill be pissed.

oh yea, and tranny problems are warranted from factory for 5/60k without any extended program.

and stein... your dealer is worse than mine! go to another one.

The one thing that got me is that he said he would take off the time and give me the 100k miles because I told him I dont drive much. Are you sure about that tranny thing? If thats true then I am definately not getting it.

I regret getting my extended warranty! Rip off.

They cover nothing that wears down, i.e. clutch, driveshafts, most engine components, weather strips, etc.

It covers things that you could care less about. I got an extended warranty when I bought the car, but looking back, it doesn't cover $hit.

I'd say just save up some money on the side to repair the things that the warranty should, but doesn't, cover.

Those warranties you get in the mail are from companies I've never heard of and wouldn't trust if I had a serious problem like a bad tranny. Think about it, for 2K you get the warranty just in case the tranny goes. If you don't buy the warranty and the tranny goes your out 2k, so take the chance that your highly reliable Japanese car is just that, reliable, and assume you won't need a new tranny. Extended warranties are lose-lose situations imo, cuz if you never bought it and the part goes your still out the same amount.

RIPOFF!! I have the 100k extended warranty from Nissan and it's BS. Wouldn't cover any TSB's! Window grease=not covered, drivers seat padding moving=not covered, alignment that was aligned 5k miles ago=not covered. Pretty much the air condition is covered any engine to 100k but thats it. It sucks but it came with the car. I wouldn't pay $1 for the coverage because it doesn't do ****.

Sorry I got them to do the TSB for the axel because it was part of the drivetrain but barely that.

so how long is the extended for, cuz thats what youre basically looking at, youll never reach 100k before that time.

yes, drivetrain is 5 year /60k

people should research what they have now, before they go buying something else. yes, the standard powertrain warranty is 5yrs/60k miles and yes it does cover the trans.

I had a 2000 that was first sold in Dec 1999, it had issues in 2005. The other was > 60k, both cars were out of manufacturer warranty. What sucks is the dealership on both accounts made teardown fees off me because warranty denied the claim. Each one was around $500. As for the dealerships, I will never buy or suggest anyone else buy, or have any car serviced by Checkered Flag Toyota of Virginia Beach, VA.

I learned a lot about warranty work, Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the lemon law, as well as ext warranty and what they tend to pull on the average person.
