My sister in law hit my Z,and theres a minor ding in the rear passenger panel (same one as fuel lid) so whats the normal thing to do here. does my brother submit a claim and they will tell him where to take it for repair,or do i go out and get an estimate? never been through this before!

 

Have your brother start a claim with his insurance company. They will contact you regarding the estimate/repair process. Depending on your state's laws, they may not be able to send you to a particular body shop. Once you've procured and sent them the estimate, they will cut you a check in that amount.

well,thats just it. I didn't want to involve my insurance company. why should they know about it? and possibly raise my rates! and why would i file a police report,it's my sister?

 

Who knows the rules and regulations better than your insurance company? You pay premiums, ask for assistance. A conversation is not going to raise your rates.

File a police report because your car has been damaged. The first thing that any insurance company will ask for is a report number.
