Default Radar Detectors

Hello all, I just got my brand new 06 Z coup and it's fuking sick!!! Love it so much, I get up at 6am every morning just to go drive it on the back roads. But I know I'm pushing my luck driving it like I'm on a race track everywhere I go!

So I need some advice on a radar detector. I have never owned one before and I don't want to *** up and get the wrong one. If anyone can recommend one that is between 100-200$ I'd appreciate it, thanks.

First of all, watch your language. Moderators will give you a warning. Radar Detectors is a past topic. You might want to search using "radar detectors" as key word in the search section. Basically, Valentine 1, Escort and Passport and Bell are the most talked about options.

Congrats on the Z, welcome to the forum.

+ 1000 on that. I use Escorts 8500, don't go with the cordless. Also I hear guys here rave about the V1.

I have the COBRA's and they arent bad. It's just that when you ARE speeding you could already see the pig and the pig can see how fast you're going and see you braking. Other than that, it hasn't lied to me. It was cool, the pig was 80-100 yrds when they were lasering people and I was doing 80+ on the 60mph zone. It saved my ***.

Just be sure to get the "digital" versions, the others are crap.

Valentine 1 suppose ot be the best bar none. But who knows...i dont even have a radar detector. Since most cops these days use Instant On a detector is useless for that.

My Bel RX65 Pro that I just got works awesome. Picked up at least five cops so far that I didn't even see until I was closer to them. One was oncoming around a bend in the road, and it beeped at me "K Band", another was sitting in a parking lot. Another was hiding behind a building, Bel got him. And another had already pulled someone over on the other side of the road. Guess he left the radar on standby or something.

Check out this website for the 2006 test results on the top radar detectors, then you can decide much better. As to myself I like the PASSPORT 8500 X50 (ESCORT). Also the Valentine is an excellen choice too. Depends also on what you want to spend. Here's the website: www.speedzones.com
Happy hunting.

w/ radar dectectors, you get what you pay for. like others have said, the V1 and escort are your 2 best bets.

cordless is crap- no matter how tempting it maybe, dont go cordless!

How come everyone says go Passport or Valentine 1, but no Bel? (Bel and Passport are the same company, and the Bel is slightly less expensive than the Passport).
