any inshore fishing tip in Orange County ?
So pissed...I went fishing 2 straight weekends (newport pier and seal beach) and I didn't even catch a single fish.
Any advice on bait,techniques.....?

I used to catch lobster near Seal Beach all the time...illegal as hell though. Damn good eatin'.
For sand bass, go to Newport Harbor and fish off the docks. They usually bite from noon til sundown. I usually use just plain old anchovies, and haul in from 5 to 10 (on a good day). This was a ways back when I lived in OC, so things may have changed.

How did you actually catch the lobsters? dont you have to dive for them, or are you talking about the 3 hook method?

one of the best message boards for pier/shore fishing in California is pierfishing.com. Great, up to the hour fishing conditions from the Mexican boarder to the Oregon border. Every time I head for the shore, I check this site. I'm not affiliated, just a big fan.
As a resident of Orange County the past 4 years, I'd have to say the most common catch off the Newport Pier is mackerel. The most popular tecnique to catching these were the SABIKI rigs. They have like 6 hooks on one line with a glossy plastic material made to look like insects? or small fish? i dunno.
But hell, it worked! I've caught 6 fish on ONE line before off the Newport pier. Damn was that HEAVY!
Also, other people use squid, shrimp, even mackerel to catch MORE mackerel.
But yeah, you can get those sabiki rigs at the bait/bicyle/surf shop right before the pier.
Have fun! Avoid catching sand sharks though.
