Factory Bose Stereo
All speakers blend together, its called a crossover network, this takes the sull range sound and splits it so that each component (tweeter, driver, woofer) can produce the frequencies its best at. So yes, listening to one comppnent at a time will sound dreadfull. But Bose doesnt even use a crossover, they just use one driver to coverall the ferequencies, which isnt the best way of doing it.

Maybe you have VandyZ, but if not, you should try listening to these speakers:
Paradigm Studio 80's
B&W CM4's and CDM9NT's
Polk RTi70 (should be readily available)
This is not an insult, but it could be Bose is the best speaker you've heard. Unlike others I don't think Bose is crap, but I do think there is better out there.
Regardless, what sounds good to you is all that matters...

DVD-Audio, one of the up and comming sources of music, is PCM digital (the same digital aproximation method as CD) can be run up to 24 bits, resulting in much better sound than CDs. SACD, the other up and comming format, developed by Philips/Sony, who created th original CD, runs on a differet aproximation method that uses only 1 bit but is procesed much faster than PCM, and uses noise reduction. Both of theese formats sound much better than CD and much more analog like, just without its downfals (possible hiss).

It will be curious to see which one wins out... I think SACD is a better technology, but DVD-Audio has a leg up b/c of the existing DVD players out there. Granted, most don't have a 192kHz D/A converter, but you could still run 96kHz currently.
Right?

I could cancel my Z and buff up my home theater, but that would be insane, right?
No, SACD uses a different technology than DVD-Audio, and uses 1 bit, but samples it 2.8 million times a second, as a posed to 24 bits sampled 96 thousand times a second. DVD-Audio discs arn't compatable on DVD-Video players.
Porting a speaker is like adding a turbo charger to an engine. It will add power, but the response will be more peaky and the start off, or transient in musical terms, will be slowed, i.e. turbo lag.
If you want great sound for the dolar look no further than definitive technology, definitivetech.com. For the money, they can't be beat. B&W is also good, but a little pricier, bwspeakers.com

Oh, ok, it appears I was getting two different versions of DVD mixed up in my head w/ SACD. My bad.
Just reading some stuff on SACD right now, interesting. I wasn't aware that they dropped the concept of PCM. It appears that SACD is actually similar in some ways to class-D amplifiers, which use a quasi-digital "1-bit" state to turn speakers "on and off", increasing efficiency.
I'm still not clear what the equivalent PCM rate is to 1-bit/2.8442MHz. I'm curious whether or not you'll be able to hear limitations of source digital recordings done on 24-bit systems?

Hey guys, I'm a little confused. I will be placing my order for an Enthusiast Model in 3 days, and I was wondering who manufactures the base 160 watt radio in it ?? Is it made by BOSE also, or is the BOSE only in the Touring models ?

Guys, no stock system will be great in a car under 50k.
I thought my Mach460 ( 460 watts ) was decent with my infinity basslink hooked up ( 200 watts )... great bass ( not too boomy but noticeable ). It is very high tech.. Pioneer did the entire thing.
Then I bought the XjR... the Alpine system absolutely blew it AWAY. In my Canepa Suburban I have a complete Sony Mobile system.. it isnt the normal Sony Mobile stuff.. it is the better stuff.. it sounds a lot nicer,. cost me a pretty penny, but everyone who has ridden in it says it sounds awesome. Complete head unit, tweeters, 3 amps, 12 inch Sub built into the floor ( really hard to explain, can take pictures if you want ) ontop of a bunch of other stuff.
the Alpine Unit definately matches the quality. It came as optional equipment on the cars price tag, and ran me 1300. Came with everything the suburban has, except an 8 inch subwoofer ( not hidden as nicely ) and no TV and 6 instead of 10 disc..
in other words, dont waste your money. Save your cash and upgrade eventually later on. Hopefully it isnt a component system like the Mach460, or else you will have to replace EVERYTHING without it sounding like crap.
I've heard the bose in my friends Track Edition. It doesnt sound crappy, but it doesnt sound great. It is about par with the 460 w/o the subwoofer ( the inifinity basslink sounds better ). But hey, what were you guys expecting? a Rolls Royce Mcintosh system?
