This video validates exactly what I don't like about convertibles. They don't look as good with the top up, and let's face it, the top is going to be up most of the time.

The Z32 convertible also looked like $#!t with the top up. IMO, I don't think the Z-car was meant to be a convertible.

i don't know about the rest of you but I'm for the Convertible!

The silver one looks like the top is more smoothed out than the red one. I think it looks good w/ the top up.--kinda of short like the boxster. If anyone sees one in person look inside and let us know if it has a headliner. (after owning an S2000 you would understand ) I hope they make a detachable hardtop though!

 

I'm still torn. If it has a removable hard-top as an option, I still may go with the convertable. Also, I still haven't heard any firm numbers on the cost for the convertable, or what trim levels it is being offered with. I think the silverstone looks sharp, and will look even beter with the top down.

 

I don't agree, Darrin. If the Z is your only transportation, this may be true. But my Z is a second car. Living where we do, I can easily see me having the top down more than half the time. The question is whether I can live with the way it looks when it is up.

Also, as the Silverstone picture illustrates, the extent of how bad it looks may depend on color. I think the Silverstone looks much better than the Redline with the top up.

Removable hardtops are a pain in the Arsh.... Plus where do you store it.

That's a fair point Andy and if the Z is your second car then it probably would see more top down time.

I guess what I'm thinking is that it's going to be up through fall and winter, so there goes 4-6 months. There's going to be times in the deep summer where it's just too hot to have the top down. All rainy days are out. And more often than not, the top will be up at night. Not to mention the albeit small hassle of putting the top up when you get out of the car to go into a store or something.

If you hear any convertible frustration in my voice, it's because my fiance has a convertible and it's basically our second car, and, you guessed it, the top is up most of the time.

Fugly, fugly fugly. I am elated that I made the right choice going with the coupe back in October. When I first saw the blue one with the top down, I thought, whew ... that looks pretty good, but what does it look like with the top up. Now, I know. Fugly, fugly, fugly. It looks like a swollen S2. Yuck, ptooyie. Bad tast in my mouth.

 

I wonder if having the factory spoiler or the Nismo spoiler on the back would help dispell the illusion of the "mile long" deck. Might help break up the big expanse of nothing...

Thoughts on Darrin's comments (I owned a Wrangler for quite a while, so these responses come from my crazed obsession with keeping the top down whenever possible.)

Winter months - down south four, five months tops. Even then there are days mixed in where it is warm enough to ride with the top down.

Deep Summer - agree... those would be the days that I ride with the top up and the AC cranked

Rainy Days - All you gotta do is drive reeeeally fast... haven't you seen the Z4 commercial? Seriously, tho, my Z rarely ever feels any precipitation

Night - mostly doesn't affect things for me. In my Jeep, if it got a bit nippy, I cranked up the floor heat and kept the top down

Stores - most often left my Jeep top down when shopping and would with the Z too. If someone wants to rob you, the top up won't deter them. A knife will get them inside almost as quickly as if the top is down.

 

tivoscool, great pics and movie. Any chance you can take a movie shot of the top going down completely?

Also a tip, take pictures (only photos) as far away as possible and use zoom. It gives a more realistic perspective, too close and everything becomes fisheyed.
