Call me superstitious but I think it's bad luck not to name your car. Just like it's bad luck not to name a ship, airplane or spacecraft. Plus, I think the car takes on a lot of the characteristics of what it was named after.
When I had the Z, I named it Indy because it was a Brickyard Touring model. As most people know, The Brickyard is the Indianapolis Speedway.
My current car's name is Anna. I named her after the hot Volvo Swedish test driver that help me choose the Volvo over the M3.

Never put too much thought into it, The Z always worked, but I like play on words, My old Maxima was Maxine. Some dudes I know who speak spanish also refer to her as the "Zeta" so I roll with that usually.

When I got my car, I thought to myself about how the Z almost felt like a Japanese Mustang, considering how much torque it had compared to my previous car. I thought of calling it the Black Ztallion. Coincidentally, the same day my friend saw the car and said it should be called the Black Ztallion without me even saying a word to him... So, the name stuck.
