Maybe some of the dealers that visit can help out with this one. My trade-in's registration is due 9/8, and I have a delivery date of 9/30 (+ or - 10 days) for my Z. To add insult to injury, I live in CA and this year I need to get a smog certification to send in with my registration.

From a dealer standpoint, is it a problem if the registration on a trade-in is exipred? I would hate to pay for a year of registration and only use the car for a few weeks. Of course I have to pay registration on the new car as well, which really hurts.

I would be willing to risk getting a exipred reg ticket since I don't really drive the car much, but I don't want to give my dealer any reason to low ball the trade-in (not that they won't anyway, just don't want any legitimate reasons).

Not a dealer, but a sugesstion in case you don't get a more knowledgable reply.

Assuming your car is new enough that passing the smog test isn't an issue, I think I'd wait on regsitering it. Have the value in mind that you expect to get for the trade-in, and be prepared to knock off your price the cost of the registration. Your tag color should get you through Sept without much worry of a ticket for unregistered vehicle.

 

DOnt register till the end of September .. thats when ur tag is outdated. By then you'll surely have ur Z .. i bet the dealership wont even notice.
