I don't know why it is, but I think no automatics have VDC. IF that were an option for some people.

Yep, I was wrong. It is only limited to the manual in the Touring model. Thanks.

VDC in the snow and ice is great, saved me a few times. I have 21 Canadian winters under my belt and I can honestly say the the Z with the proper tires and VDC is a pleasure to drive in the winter. I never turn mine off unless the situation warrants a bit of tire spinning.

Have fun and enjoy!

Your opinion is noted, but I disagree.

Does the Xterra weigh about 4,700 lb, have four wheel drive and on/off road tires?

^ what does it matter what it weighs? you can still lose control. its not AWD you have to manually put it on 4WD and its on the stock tires.

you can still lose control and its the VDCs job to correct that. ive turned the VDC off and ive spun all the way around. turn it on and it basically stops mid turn. (with the help of your correction.)

Would I trade a 2006 350Z for a 2007 350Z just to get VDC. No. Hell if I had that much money I would just buy a second car.

I live in MN too! Ive owned my Z for a month now and so far Winter driving isnt that bad. You know that snow storm we got on New Years? I was driving a Scion TC in that. It was HORRIBLE! This thing handles WAYY better in the snow.

I had summer tires on last winter and it was horrible even with VDC. I have winter tires on now and have no problems at all. When I made right turns in the snow and the rear starts slipping out I can hear the breaks crunch down on one corner and stops any spinning action.

I think it's a waste of money to trade a car in after only one year, but I hear the engine in the 07's are pretty nice. VDC alone isn't a good enough reason to trade up.

Thanks all for the feedback, it confirms what I had suspected. VDC will not save your a$$, and there's a point at which physical laws will overcome electronic intervention. Or stupidity. But I think it's a small element that in combination with TCS and common sense will help make driving in adverse conditions a little safer.

Honestly, my ZR with snow tires and TCS is pretty decent in up to 3 or 4" of snow, but it doesn't come close to awd even with all-season tires. The Hondas and Mazda fwd cars I've owned in the past were okay in the snow, but I never ran any of them with snow tires.

I wish I could buy a used 07 GT Roadster but I guess I'll have to wait a bit for that. And yes, it would hurt to suffer depreciation on my 06 after only 6 months, but a new 07 would be sweet! I'm probably going to wait to see the new Audi TT Roadster at the auto show in March.

No, but I have driven a 944 Turbo, 300ZX, IROC Z28, Maxima SE, Altima SE and other vehicles on snow covered roads [All with OEM tires, without VDC/TCS].

I strongly disagree with this for sure.
FWD even with all season tires is far superior than any RWD no matter how good the tires are.
I am speaking from personal experience of driving both RWD and FWD in about 33 winters now.
