Default Overnight Test Drive of a 350z

I test drove a daytona blue Z last weekend. I was pretty sure I was going to get it, and went over their today to drive it again, and potentialy buy it. Well I walked in the door and the sales guy is standing right their smiling. He tells me that he just sold it the day before. To add insult to injury he tells me that some lady bought it for her 16 year old son ! ! ! Ugh.

So I went check out the next Z on my list across town. Ended up test driving it, and after some talking the guy let me take it home for an overnight test drive.

I've been driving it around and everything seems fine, other then this wierd swirl in the paint on the front left quarter pannel. But the sales guy said their paint guy just hasn't gotten around to fixing it.

Now that I have it at home is there anything else that I should check out?

I saw this on a car saleswomans desk while helping a friend shop last weekend:

"The car you test drive today and plan to buy tomorrow may be the same car someone test drove yesterday and will buy today."

Not saying jump blindly into a purchase, but if you liked the car and all was well, why wait another week to buy (or at least make a deposit if possible). Anyway, good luck with the search. I'm sure there are more out there.

It's a 2003 Touring w/ 43000k. It also has:

Side skirts
Exhast
Intake
Clifford Alarm w/ remote start

Now that I have it at home is there anything else that I should check out?

Being that it's an 03...check to make sure the tires are okay ( no feathering)

You can always run a carfax report on it too

Check for new front tires. Its a dead give-a-way for feathering.

I'd say have a good drive around, find another one if you can to compare to, different surfaces, especially bumpy and uneven surfaces that will probably bring out any little quirks. If all seems well and you like that one and the price is right, go for it. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I would take it to a reputable shop and have a mechanic go over the entire car. Even if you have to pay $50, this will be the best investment you'll ever make. If there's anything wrong, then you can have the dealership fix it first or if it's something minor, negotiate the price down less the cost of repairing the problem.

Humm not sure why I made a double post. I have a carfax report and it's is clean.

The car has aftermarket wheels and thus also aftermarket tires which show no signs of feathering from what I can see. There are pictures of the tires, as well as the weird swirl mark at the link below.

Looks pretty good, can't really tell if those are the front tires but the front tires are the ones you have to check for feathering. Get them to throw in fixing the paint and i would say seems like a good purchase. Put a front lip on that bad boy if you buy it.

I can't really tell too much about the spot because of the pic, but it looks like the paint lifted. If so that means atleast the quarter has been repainted.

Yeah the sales guy mentioned it might have been egged too. Makes sense. Hopefuly the person that egged it it the first time knows that the previous owner sold their car

I ended up buying it, with the agreement that they will fix the paint, and allow me a couple days to take it to an independent mechanic to check it out.

looks pretty decent from what I can see, even the tires. I was gonna say to agree to buy if they fixed the paint and have it checked by an independent mechanic, but you beat me to it. and +1 on how much you got it for? that would be the deal breaker.

KBB Trade in:$19,425 - $16,465
KBB Private Party: $24,960
KBB Retail: $24,825

Got it for $19,999

So I think I got a pretty good deal.
