Default What to get with insurance money?

I recently wrecked my car due to operator error. Well, to make a long story short, I was not cited for anything and I was not found at fault of this one-car accident. Anyway, the insurance appraiser estimated the damage to the fron-end at 10,200 dollars, roughly. I need to get a new hood, bumper, radiator, headlights, fan, and many other things. I am going through the dealership for the repairs thanks to full coverage auto insurance. Well, I know that dealerships charge a ton for replacement parts, so I was going to get aftermarket parts instead, hopefully for the same price, maybe less than the OEM parts. Does anyone know a website where I can look at the cost of OEM replacement items for the 350z. Also, what would be a good aftermarket hood, radiator, front bumper, and fan. Thanks for the help. Sorry if this is too vague.

Please send me your Insurance Company's contact information immediately. I need me some of that.

Seriously- go to the body shop that is reputable enough, and gives you the best quote. Use the extra money for a set of extra rims and nice tires. Go to www.scca.org and find the nearest school to you and attend.

Yes, driving lessons would be a good investment. I was simply trying to make a turn that I was going to miss, so I braked rather hard. Here comes the stupid part, I then turned the wheel slightly, well, we know that with 100% of traction put towards braking, there is none left for cornering. (Thanks Gran Turismo 3 instruction booklet..lol) So, it was a stupid mistake, one that I won't be making twice. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Props to you for admitting your mistake.

Advanced driving courses will help you now & in the future.

If you can, try to get the '06/'07 headlights.

Contact some forum sponsors and do a Google/etc search for the lowest oem/after market parts cost.

Good luck!

You may not have a choice in the matter. Do you think that the insurance company is going to hand you cash?

The insurance rep said she was going to direct deposit the money into my bank account. Then once I get a parts break down from Nissan for the costs of the damaged equipment, I am going to try and get aftermarket parts for cheaper. I will have to ask them if they will install these parts, but hopefully as long as they get paid, they will be happy. A buddy of mine has done this same thing, hopefully it works. Also, been looking everywhere for the hood on the Nismo Z's with the vents, where can I find this hood?

Weird, they usually make the checks out to the body shop to keep people from pocketing the cake.

How is one not at fault in a one car accident anyways?

The cop must have felt bad. Or figured "No harm, No Foul"

It has nothing to do with the police report or the ticket issued. if collision is paid out on your policy, you will be charged. if someone from the insurance company said that its not a chargable accident, GET IT IN WRITING. the claims divison wont charge you, the underwriter will. Cover your A$$!!

+1

Also, if your car still has a lien holder, insurance company will issue a two party check to you and your lien holder. But if your car is all paid for, then the check will all go to you.

If your insurance company will settle for a fixed amount, I assume that the money includes parts and labor. Once you are paid, the claim is settled. You can do as you wish with the money. Hope this works well for you.

I would go with a carbon fiber hood if you are into that look. I see the regular hoods are $350 on that site but you still will have to pay a a few hundred to paint it. You might get out a little cheaper just getting a carbon fiber hood and not paint it.

Yes, the estimate included labor and paint. It might just be easiest to stay stock, since I am without any mode of transportation right now. I tried to work a deal with them today asking if they would give me a free rental since I bought the car from them and am getting it repaired through them. They wouldn't take the bait. Looks like I'll be bumming rides for the next 15 days. I would love to get a V2 bumper and nismo hood and maybe different headlights and a performance radiator, but it would take so much time for me to decide, probably better to just get the car repaired so I have transportation. Thanks for the tips guys.
