Best decision I've ever made. If you're smart about a warranty, you'll know how to use it effectively. Regardless, it's still a great precaution to purchase when buying a pre-owned car.

Well, lets see....

In the past 10 years, I have bought 9 vehicles.

7 were new, 2 were used.

5 were family sedans, 2 were small trucks, and 2 were sport/perfromance cars

3 were Nissans, 4 were Toyotas, and 2 were Mazdas.

I usually own 3 vehicles al the time, and keep them for about 100K.

Total spent on repairs in the last 10 years: $0

I did have a de-cel fuel shut-off switch fail on the '98 626 (5 spd manual), but they replaced it under warranty.

So I think I do just fine without any extended warranties. Take the $1000 (or whatever) and put in the bank. You will almost certainly come out way ahead.

I do kind of regret dropping $900 on my extended warranty. It was 5 yrs 100k miles and i financed it over a year. Yeah i definitely regret it.

I got the extended one too, but more because I was lazy and willing to pay an extra $1000 just so I could get stuff taken care of and replaced that are not covered.

its such a rip off. when the guy tried to gimme the speal when my wife and i bought our xterra i told him not to waste his time. he looked at me like i was an idiot and said 'may i ask why'. i simply said 'its a waste of money when we wont have the car past 3-4 years'.

dont buy a 7 year warranty when youll own the car for 4. thats how they squeeze every last cent outta you.

I didn't get one on the Z, but I did when I had my Prelude. It was 3yr/36k for the OEM warranty, bumped it to 5yr/100k miles about 20k into it. Cost me $1400 at the time. I really never needed it up until I sold it, had to change my timing belt/water pump under warranty because they went early (covered by TSB).

There is a differece between an aftermarket warranty when the manufacturers warranty is new or still acive and when you buy a used car and it isn't active.

This warranty will come in VERY VERY handy especially after you mod your Z and take it to the dealer and say hey it seems to be not doing something right, then they will just void your $3,000 dollar warranty......enjoy getting screwed! lol
***WASTE OF MONEY*** CANCEL IT AND GET UR MULA BACK IF POSSIBLE***

I really doubt if those services were $1400?

The most remarkable thing I noticed about extended warranties is the large divergence in pricing. I got an Nissan extended warranty last fall and noticed that the quotes varied by almost $500 between dealers. While I hate to badmouth sponsor of this website, the company (in Georgia, I think) was asking $1,400 for the same Nissan warranty offered by a dealer in nearby Ohio for $900. Also if you buy a warranty from an out-of state dealer one is spared state sales tax which can be, depending on the warranty cost and state, almost $100 dollars. I've already purchased an extended warranty, so I obviously I will not argue the economics. However, given the cost of most repairs, it seemed to me that a single visit to the dealer for failed items such as the A/C unit or window lifts could easily cost as much as the extended warranty. Of course one might risk the repairs and hold on to the money, but Murphy's law is always lucking in the background. Of course, if you are one that freqently changes cars, then why bother with extended warranties.

the only time I ever bought one, was with my Explorer...and it was only because they offered money back if not used....it was never used and Ford dealer refunded cost of warranty

I asked Nissan for same....they laughed

so if you got that in writing, save that piece of paper and get your $$ back if you don't use it...be careful as to what work you have done, they will try and say recalls and other things are covered by the extended warranty to make sure they don't have to refund your $$
