However, I also think the Z is very safe considering many of the accident posts I've seen on this forum and the driver/passenger were relatively unscathed.

I believe the 350Z is a safe car, but believe it is drawing in less mature drivers as time goes by. Hence the death rate may increase even more.
An affordable sports car, with 300 HP. I am not surprised. As others have stated younger and younger folks are getting their hands on 350Zs. There are a TON of sub 20 year old drivers just on this forum alone. When the car first came out that of course was not the case.
Interesting article, but I'm not sure I believe it. Not too long ago, I got a newsletter in the mail from Liberty Mutual (my former insurance co). It contained a chart showing the relative ranking of Injury, Collision and Theft for just about every car made. The data came from the same group that provided it for the USAToday story - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety / Highway Loss Data Institute.
They ranked cars by group, with a score of 100 being "average" for that group. The Z scored 99 out of 100 in the Injury category. The Rustang scored 115. The Eclipse was the only "sports car" to score in the "worse than average" range at 134.
By comparison, here are the scores of some other high ranked cars
Mazda6 134

Lancer 207
Sentra 200
EVO 158
Civic 150
RSX 150
Scion tC 172
A lot of the small and a good percentage of the mid-size cars scored "worse than average".
The Z ranked 203 in the Collision Damage and 196 in theft.

The whole article is a farce. Those big SUV's which are "safer" make it a helluva lot less safe for other smaller cars. However, that is not the only factor. More than anything, its probably the driver.

Affordability, performance, Hollywood, magazines, websites, aftermarket modifications... they all contribute to a persons state of mind when they get behind the wheel of this car. Everything is related in some way, whether you like it or not. Hopefully, the majority of 350Z owners registered as users here, get a glimpse of this article and it affects them in a positive way. There's lots of things in this world worth dying for, a car is not one of them.

To bad the article doesn't go into any detail as to how the people died, small sports car verses 3 ton SUV hmmm no wounder so many people died in a 350Z or a car of similar size. Of course SUV's are going to be safer when there a lot bigger than most other cars. Did they do any research on how the deaths were causes in the SUV's? nope I could imagine most of them where caused by them either 1, hitting something the same size as them or 2, Hitting something bigger than them. The research is skewed and far from complete. Its half asses things like this that make your SUV driving American think they own the road.
Would be nice if a company or board or whoever puts these things together would take a real survey one that takes into account the way the accidents happen. What kind of car hit what car ect.. ect..
safest car on the road? SEMI FTW theres hundreds of thousands of them but because there such monsters they can plow through damn near anything killing everything in there path and by the articles logic that makes them the safest right?
