Default Thinking about a 350z

I am deciding between a rx-8 and a 350z and after reading about all the problems the rx-8 has I was wondering if there are any recall or common problems with the 350z.

RX-8 is really not a competitor to the Z, its in a much lower power class.

RX8's Suck ........ a lot of gas that is. Beware !!!! Power isn't there either.

I don't like the styling but, that is a personal choice not a technical one.

Good luck.... I wouldn't own one. If I won one I'd sell it and buy a Z ;-)

I know this is a little harsh.

Most RX8 owners don't find out about the mileage until the first few months of ownership. Mileage of a small SUV ~18-20mpg. I get 25-30 in my Z.

And ...... a Z is so sexy.

I would like to know if you guys have any problems that are common or if the z is a reliable car. I know the rx-8 has flooding, starting, tranny and gas mileage problems. Also on the internet it says the z is 18city and 24 hwy is that true?

I was debating on the same thing, there was something about the RX-8 that I liked... & since I am a previous MX-5 owner, I liked Mazda, but there was also something about it that I didnt like, the back looks like a bubble.
Some guy told me "I test drove an RX-8 and it is the fastest car I have EVER driven before! My god it's fast!"... pshhhh! Yeah ok, no regrets in buying my Z! Get it!

Some teenager got next to me at a redlight & rev'd his rx-8, had 3 of his lil friends inside the car, I was laughing 3 seconds after the light turned green, they just cant compare

I personally think the RX8 is a chick car.
Before I bought my Z, I test drove an RX8,
and to be honest, It just felt all wrong to me.
I really believe it was made for a girl.
I went and test drove a Z about an hour
later, and this car was absolutely in a different
class than an RX8.

That would depend on the year. For reliability data check Consumer Reports.

350Z>rx8

Test drive both . . . start with the RX8, then the 350Z. It's game over after your 2nd test drive.

I did a lot of research on the 350Z before I bought one. Did not even consider other sports cars. Inquired with local dealerships on availability and ordered one online. After signing the paperwork at the dealership, my brand new '06 Z was delivered to me the next day . . . without a test drive. That's how confident I was with the Z. Almost a year later, I'm still in love with her. No problems whatsoever.

RX8 is a gas guzzler. It drinks more gas than a V8.

I still have my '03 Z, and it has had some minor problems. It is not enough to deter me. The transmission isn't perfect, but there are worst cars out there.

Of course I wouldn't be caught dead in an RX-8, but did anyone see the RX-8 vs 350z comparo on TOP GEAR? The stig ran the cars dead even around the track. I hate the rotary and the car is "unique" looking to say the least, but hey it might work for some of us, esp those with small kids.

A co-worker at my old job test drove a '06 Grand Touring 350z and a Touring '06 Rx8. Top of the line for both cars. He ended up with the Rx8 because he "needed the backseat for his friends". I bought my '05 a few months later and he sat in it and looked and me and said... "sh*t, i shoulda got one of these instead. f*ck the backseats."

No comparison IMO. The Z is better made and a all around nicer car. The thing that I did not like about the RX-8 was how noisy it was and how the interior was cheap looking. But in the end its up to you, these are just my opinions.

When i went shopping for a new car an RX-8 was one of the cars i test drove before i got into a Z. I have to say that the RX-8 interior is much sportier/comfortable compared to the Z. The styling seemed to be better designed than the interior of any Z. (two tone stock seats, better stereo, ect)

I was not impressed with the performance of the RX-8. I came from a 4cylinder and to me it was just extra RPM's than my last car with the same pull. The thing was a tonka toy with a nice bubble wrapping.

I got into the Z, test drove it, drove it home that night. End of Story.

Some issues with Z, as is true with all cars, but, overall, reliable. Avoid 03s since it was first year. have car inspected by good mechanic if buying used.

Now The Rx-8 May Not Be In The Same Power Class As A Z But Let's Not Forget That It Handles Incredibly Well And It Is A Little More Versatile With The Addition Of Two (although Small) Seats In The Rear
