M3 Wolf Pack and a Viper
M3 Wolf Pack
Saturday night, I finally got the Z over the 1200 mile break-in, and since I was near Route 59 and Higgins, decided to make a right and open it up. Awesome - love how the exhaust sounds in the higher rev range!! Note that as I'm doing this, I'm not used to the car at these rev levels, so it's more of a "check it out" kind of thing.
While I was accelerating, in glanced at my rear view mirror and saw some cars keeping up with me. I could tell they were not cop cars, but I didn't know what they were, so I slowed down a little to see who they were. It ended up it was a pack of M3's!!
As the lead M3 came by my side, I took a look and noticed the M3's passenger was filming me. So, I was goosing the gas just to get them to punch it (they eventually did). I was cracking up the whole time because I don't street race, but I knew what these guys were doing. Eventually we reached Barrington rd and I turned right, they followed, and when we stopped at the light, I asked them why they were filming me. They said they like to film other cars and hadn't seen the Z before. I hope they don't put this down as a "kill" on one of the M3 web sites!! I asked the driver of the lead M3 what year it was (1996) and if there were any mods (none). However, he did say one of the other M3's had the Dinan suspension ($$$) and some other mods.
Viper bites
Later that night I am going home eastbound on Route 20 (Lake Street). As I pulled up to a stop light, there was a car to my left. In my left side mirror I saw a car with projector lamps pull up behind the left lane driver. I couldn't tell if it was an older Eclipse (generation before the current model) or some other car with similar headlamp shape. As we're waiting I hear this loud, truck like revving noise, so I am thinking this car isn't an Eclipse. Light turns green, I accelerate slowly, couple seconds go by, and then mystery car flies by me. It was one of the older Vipers! The Viper pulls ahead around three car lengths, then jinks into the open right lane, and there I see him fishtail. Don't know if that was from a gear change or just the normal nature of the car. And then he went on to mess around with some other cars which I think were part of the same group, so I just hung back.
In all a pretty amusing night!
