California and Oklahoma 350z Question
Hi, i was wondering if there is a difference between the California and Oklahoma 350z? I was wondering if anything is different between these states and if the smog is different. please respond asap.
All cars sold in the US meet the California Emissions requirements, whether they are sold there or not. It would be too much trouble for manufacturers to have two different versions of every make and model.

Actually his question is valid. When the manufacturers started putting emmision control devices on cars, they complied with federal guidelines. California had stricter requirements so cars there were even more "detuned" and more emission equipment added so that the "California certified" Z put out less HP, etc. than, say, an Oklahoma car.
For reasons stated above, all cars now meet the California standard.
BTW, if I remember correctly, the government started forcing car companies to install emission equipment starting in 1968.

Just as a follow up, while getting my car serviced at the dealer yesterday, I asked the General Manager about "California" cars, certification. etc.based on this discussion.
I was surprised when he told me that some Nissans still have to be special ordered for the California market. As I recall they were mostly trucks/SUV's.
He said his sister from California recently visited and she wanted to buy an Armada from him but he couldn't sell her one of his because they weren't California certified.
Like almost everyone, I presumed that all vehicles were the same everywhere. I guess not.

California has the PVEZ models with less horsepower/less emissions than the rest of America.
Rest of America has regular models with the true horsepower that manufacters brag about.
isnt that right?

the Oklahoma one has special wheels that resemble a wagon wheel, and the California one comes with a tofu dispenser in the dash

thank you. Someone can use common sense.
Do you know how much it would cost manufacturers to make cars specifically for California and to not sell them. Then no one from other states would want to buy them because they were lower on power
I can go on if I must. lol
the only cars I have ever seen with diff ratings were Hondas with California specs. I think just exhaust components though.
