Default Accident yesterday....thinking Chargespeed kit for repairs

Well, to make a short story even shorter...I had just gotten on the highway after it had rained all morning. The front tires were tracking fine, nothing felt squirrlie when the back just swung around, like I was on ice. I ended up grazing the front fascia on the concrete retaining wall, and smacking the rear end pretty good. It could have been much worse. Stillen dual is jacked and I'm going to need new front and rear fascias, new taillights ect. I'm thinking I may go with Chargespeed, atleast for the rear....not sure I'm sold on the front yet.

Will keep ya'll posted.

what?!?! Almost all of these accident threads are driver error as much as the driver's don't think so. I can tell you that I have driven my Z through plenty of rain and part of this last chicago winter (snow and all). I just drive carefully. Plus I have been to quite a few pro driving courses which touch a lot on driving any RWD 250+hp cars in the weather elements. I'm sure these skills have helped.

99.9% of the time you can feel the car loosing control way before its too late. Most people don't know how to handle these situations and over correct causing accidents. If you think our Z's are bad you should try out my buddies 2005 viper in the rain...

+1. I have yet to see a Z lose control because the car just wanted to. If you know how to drive a RWD car (and I mean really drive and control one), then you won't have any issues. Even with the base model. I guarantee you they are a lot less tail happy than some of the old Porsche 911 or even most of the old muscle cars, yet skilled people were able to drive those all the time with out randomly wrecking for no apparant reason in the rain, ice and snow. (btw, I had a 700 RWHP '72 Firebird that I drove year around in Oregon without fault. You guys really need to learn how to drive better.)

Now to the OP, glad it wasn't anything serious and that you are alright. Hope the car comes out perfect once it's fixed back up.

hope your ok. its weird though, first thing most people think about after these accidents is what kind of body kit they're going to put on to replace it.

its like you guys want to get into an accident so you have an excuse to get a body kit.

Wow.....no wonder I stopped frequenting this board and keep my mouth shut when I do. I agree with everything said about driver skill and contrary to most of ya'lls assummptions...I DO have DE seat time and having owned 4 Z cars, including two twin turbo's...I am well aware of the intricacies of driving the medium to high powered sports cars in the elements.

All that being said....this WAS my fault and not the cars volatility. Was it driver error? more in judgement.. I hate to think what might have happened had I been a noob behind the wheel and paniced...or not taken the right steps to salvage what I could from a bad situation. I say it is my fault because having spent more time looking over the car today, my rear tires are worse than I realized. Hard to believe it passed inspection two weeks ago. I actually have 2 sets of rear tires sitting in the garage that might have prevented all of this. The fronts where new about 3k mile ago and where giving me solid feedback through the steering..granted I was only on the highway about 20 seconds before the accident. An error in judgement taking the car out? Sure. Don't let most of the accident posts disuade you from the buying a Z...as a LARGE portion are the drivers exceeding their own abilities. The Z if far more capable a car than most of the drivers skill sets. me included.... but I'm taking the steps to learn and I recognize the need to respect that. Every driver will have accidents, how bad is up to you.

Thanks BTW for the concern.

regarding the having accidents to get kitted. LoL!! ... That would get expensive on insurance premiums. I figure it's like this. you insurance company is already going to be paying to paint something for your car...may as well embrace the opporatunity to change it up. Mine is an 03 so it will be like getting a new car... or atleast freshening it up a bit. It's not like I've been spending money on tires or anything....

(if you can't laugh at life... *shrug*)

Sorry, I reread my post and it didn't come out like I wanted. Basically I was in reference to redsoxfan referring that he wanted to stay way because the Z's just wreck themselves. And yeah, bald tires are not the best thing to use. Someone about 8-10 months ago wrecked their TT in Florida for the same reason. He even had a new set in the garage but hadn't taken the time to swap them out. I understood at the time that he was fairly competent as well, but not much you can do when the back end is floating and won't grab.

Anyway, as I said before glad no one was hurt and it sounds like the damage was minimal. Hope you get it back to 100% condition.
