I don't think this can be done with the ignition. The Z uses an electronic key system. Doesn't apply to the door locks, but the ignition should be fine.

That's not to say it can't be stolen...if someone really wants to steal a car and knows what they are doing, they will.

However I've only heard one story of a Z being stolen without the key.

Do all Z's have a chipped key for the ignition?

My stuff got stolen out of a gym locker room just recently with NO damage to the lock itself. Holy Sh*t on the bump-Key

Chipped keys dont make much of a difference. Almost all cars have had them for years and the still get stolen frequently.

Smart cars like BMW and Mercedes will usually be the exception. The keys can do quite a bit more. But you would expect that for $130 a key

However when I came to my car the door was open. There was no damaged to the car and the windows were in tact. So how could they break into 2007 350z? Don’t they have a pretty good security? Makes me worry about future security in my car.

P.S. These idiots did not take my $400.00 watch that I left in my car nor my $300.00 pool stick.
maybe you left your doors unlucked and you dont remember it!!!

you can't slim jim the Z. There's nothing to latch a hold of down there and jimmy upward. AAA got in my car in honest 3minutes. He couldn't start it, but he could disarm and open the doors in no time. Like mentioned above, with the right tools, you can get into almost anything. Sounds like a case of an unlocked car though, because if they would of broke into the car they would have swept the ENTIRE car for everything. If the door was unlocked, it was some punk kid reaching in and grabbing your XM radio in fear of getting caught. That's what comes to my mind when you say your other things were left. Sorry about your luck partner.

I routinely respond to open peeps cars for them. To be honest, I have never met a vehicle I could not open without damage (including a Z).

All you need are the right tools and it's not too difficult.

BTW, I'd pay anyone top dollar to see them successfully open a newer model car with a bump key. They only work on certain types of lock mechanisms.

Ignition protection doens't really prevent someone from flatbedding your car away does it?

true but a tilt sensor would certainly set off any decent alarm, although I'm sure they would disable the alarm first if they were any good.

Whos gonna say anything to someone towing a car in a parking lot or something. Even with the alarm going off.
People will just assume its legit and go on their way. So that doesnt help either.

I try to always keep my Z in site or in a well lit and populated area, and at night, it sleeps on the right, under my bedroom window, I sleep in the middle on my bed, and next to me on the left is the 12 gauge shotty!

For some reason, that story seems a little funny.

I'm a locksmith myself, and i've gotten into Z's with little problem. It's not the easiest car to open, but with the right tools and information, i've gotten into them in less than 5 minutes. And i've only been in the trade for about 3 years.

The electronic ignition is harder to bypass, but once again, with the right tools, it's easily done. The equipment we use to make the keys has a 10 minute delay so that if theif's got their hands on it, it couldnt be done quickly. But in all honesty, that just means, with some luck, I could drive away with your car in 20 minutes. And that's doing everything legitimatly and not damaging anything/using anything illegal.

at $130 a key for a BMW thats a bargain. I wanted an extra set until they quoted me $190 for one freakin key.

nowadays your car is never as safe as you think.
we just posted a thread about cars being stolen. Those people in the big cities watch out for them shopping malls and theatres.
