Apparently they do this to pretend to be "on your side", so that the buyer channels his frustrations toward the "tower", rather than the salesperson.

I read about that in this article:

The technical name for the "salesman running to the tower" routine is called "third-party negotiation." This is done for a couple of reasons. The first is as NGZ said; it is to make it appear that the salesman is on the customer's side. The second reason is this: as we all have noted, most car salesmen (and -women) are idiots. You don't really think the General Manager would give them the power to actually negotiate with you on the price of your new (or used) car, do you? The higher-ups intentionally keep the sales "consultants" in the dark as to what the car can actually be sold for. They want the salesman to know as little as possible about the deal.

Of course, there are exceptions. There are salesmen out there who are true professionals and will treat you with respect and who can work a deal with you directly. But they are the minority.

Kind of makes you wonder how some of the salesman even sell cars. Why didn't you ask for the manager?

i made a salesman run in circles...i kept asking questions i already knew and he kept running back and fourth to the manager and other salesman than finnally back to me....
me and my buddie were laughing our a s s e s off.

the funniest question was.

"so the 07's have bigger HID's than the 04's right?"
"umm...let me check..."3 mins later "yes they do"

"they 06's have silver/polished climate control ***** right?"
"umm...i think..let me check" a few minutes later"ah yes they do"

ETC..

the weird thing was i was answering my own questions and he still went and asked.

i also didnt buy anything there...the ONLY reason i go to dealerships is because i like the test drives.

other than that i think/ know the cars are over priced just to make the salesman's commission's.

Always ask to see the invoice. Then give them maybe $300 over invoice, that's their commission. I bought both my 07' Z's through the same dealership this way and got them for several thousand under MSRP. My new Touring was around $37,000 MSRP and I got it for around $32,500.

I find all of that REALLY hard to believe. I had a sales guy telling me that the '07 was 300 HP and he didn't know it had dual intakes. That was the extent of his stupidness. I don't believe the OP story.

Next time you go to Sansone ask for Carl Monto. My friend bought his Z there, and this salesman definitely knew his stuff (gave him a good deal too).

Zian,

There are only 2 2007 6SPD DB Touring 350zs on the entire east coast, and neither of them have side air bags

yeah my vehicle seems particularly hard to find...although stalarman on this forum was very helpful in searching the east coast. As it turns out, I might be in luck in Utah or I might have to go GT...but it is happenning and I can't freakin wait. Had another meeting at the dealership about ordering the GT, and the salesman needed a "contract that says I would buy the car" BEFORE we had discussed price and I had even seen it. This, after his EXTREMELY rude treatment before, and I just walked. I'll use another dealer or wait until I'm back in cali before I buy anything from that @$$hat.

Dealerships are the way they are because of the consumer. Every dealership needs to go to one price shopping, like saturn did. Mark the car up a fair amount and the consumer can take it or leave it. Wonder why Harley is what they are besides their name. They don't negotiate, Yes sir the price of this Fatboy is 15K. Oh thats to much well let me show you this 883 you can afford.

The "New" car game is awful. It brings out the worst in people and the very worst part is over the past 70 years people assume when they walk in they are getting ****ed so they are dicks to the "sales people".

I work at a Power Sports dealership and I can assure you if you are an *** or cocky or whatever you WON'T get a "deal" of any kind.

The best thing to do be nice don't treat the sales guy poorly casue he might not know somethings about the car "you" want.

I had a guy ask me what the cam duration was on an R1 and I was like why would you need to know that...then we got all I don't know.

If what you are buying is a fair deal then it shouldn't matter what the dealership is making.
