The last Supra, RX7 and 300ZX were all done right and I still get wood from them.

How about not being so superficial that you're obsessed with what other people think about your car? OH NOES IT'S NOT HOT ANYMORE!111!

Good cars are always "hot" to people who are informed about cars. And everyone else is too ignorant to be concerned their opinion on the matter anyway. If teenagers on the internet decide that the 350Z is "teh lam3" I could care less.

I think the current 350z turns over the "was hot" category approx. 5 years after a new redesigned z came out.

While the Z is a nice car, in the grand scheme of things, it's still a $30,000 car (a fully loaded Camry would cost just as much). Besides, when you're doing your woo thing, the Porsche, Z06, M5 drivers just look at you, shake their heads, and move on.

while i'm not necessarily condoning the whole ric flare over zeal thing (nor am i condemning it, to each his own), your camry comparison holds little weight as a fully loaded Z is a bit more than 30k. On another note, does bigger pricetag always equate to better car? I think not.

not trying to rile you up. just being realistic.

i think mine has stood the test of time...5 years

when the 09's come out, it'll just be another extension of the legacy and our 350z's will hold their respectable place in the line.

The Z is often imitated but never copied. Other car makes simply can't get the coupe shape down like Nissan did. Just look at the G6, Crossfire, etc.

As far as the topic at hand, to me the car is a classic. I'm reminded everyday that I have a hot car, and it's usually one of two things:

A) A girl/girls hitting on me, and shouting "NICE CAR" or "HOT CAR!" (swear to God on this)
B) All of the drivers on the road who can't help but look.

How about a third?

C) The as*hole ricers and/or guys who want to show off in their (insert crappy car of choice here)

The public admires the Z on the roads the same way they admire Ferraris, Porsches, etc. That kind of affection and attention usually helps cars remain timeless for years to come, sort of how like Supras remained timeless, as well as the NSX, RX7, and 300ZX.

NEVER.

The older fairly Z looks hot even now, 2 decades later.

on the other hand, I think the looks of the new GT-R and the G35 coupe will grow out more quickly.

Agreed on everything you've said. The G37 is already looking ugly to me, and nearly everyone else I know, including a bunch of forum guys. The 1st gen coupe still looks light-years better.

I've thought the Z looked good since it came out ... so, if you're like me, it'll take you a long time

Couldn't have said it better myself. Had a friend who saw my Z for the first time and said "This is going to be a classic some day." So true.

I don't want to bust any bubbles here, but the car started out at/around 30k in 03. The 03's are now going for around 17k. That's a pretty big drop in price, which usually indicates that Nissan is building a ton of Z's and that's causing the demand to be lower and the resale to drop. These are not good signs for a car to become "classics". Unless someone is planning on keeping their UNMODIFIED Z for 30 years, then maybe we might see you and your Z on the Barret-Jackson auction block one day.

Whether or not a car is a classic has nothing to do with the number sold or its resale value. A classic car is one whose design is outstanding and never ages. To cite an example from around when I was born, the 37 Cord or Auburn Speedster. The year both were produced the company went bankrupt and you couldn't give them away. Today they are both considered design classics and and sell at very high prices.
