Default First Zs all Have Navigation

My dealer told me the only Zs hes getting the first part of sept. are the ones with the navigation system. Is that the same at all the dealers. If you have a Z coming in about a month or so. Does it have the navigation in it?

Maybe they are redesigning the inside of the storage unit for those without Navi so that we can fit some CD jewel cases in there or something. Sure hope so.

Why would someone want a nav. setup in a car like the 350z... its a pure sports car.... i dont see myself taking a car like that on a roadtrip... do u? so whats the nav. for... other then snob appeal...

I got nav, because for me it would be silly not to get one in this technology-based era we live in. So, just because you don't like the option, means it is useless to everyone?

Yes, it is a pure sports car. Does this mean I will only drive it on the track, or on the freeway... no.

I plan to drive my Z every single non-snow day of the year. There are many times I go downtown to locations I don't really know that well. Nav is going to help me, plus the nav looks cool and fun.

Everyone tends to think in a very small bubble regarding the nav. Navigation does not have to mean "roadtrip." It is for everyday driving around town, or to adjacent towns that are unfamiliar.

My buddy has a nav in his Lexus RX300. He didn't really care at first if he got it or not. After having it for just under a year, he says he will never get a vehicle without one. I can see why. They are cool and helpful.

So the point I am making is... Whether you are getting a nav for pure coolness for technology sake, or you think it will help out around town, or yes, even for roadtrips, then the nav is awesome. Not everyone wants the nav, and that makes sense too.

Besides, the Z looks weird with the blank spot where the nav would go if you don't order one.

For me the Z is perfect because:

1. it is the most incredible sports car around
2. it has the coolest technology I have seen, both nav and equipment
3. it looks better than any other vehicle on the road
4. the drivers seat looks like it is a cockpit of a fighter plane.. dense and perfectly useful
5. ... okay, I could go on, but these are the main point.

Todd

BTW, an F14 is a pure fighter plane, yet it too has a navigation system.

Well hate to burst that rumor apart, but I don't have nav, and my delivery is confirmed for Sept. 3. Now, if they want to give me the nav for free, I'll be happy to take it!

I didn't order nav because I flat out can't afford another 2k on this car. I'm streching myself a little as it is to get it. I'd love to have it, but I've never had one before, so I'm not gonna miss it. Besides, you can always add it later.

Oh, and by the way, fighter jets wouldn't be able to fly without nav. The newer ones are not very aerodynamic, and require minute changes all the time to stay flying straight. Heard that on the discovery channel

I didn't buy the NAV but, I did buy the Z for road trips. I've always driven my sports cars on long trips, sometimes its the journey, not the destination which is the idea. Not original, its a saying by motorcyclists.

Boomer--I did get the AT and 17" tires. It should be a more comfortable traveler than my MR2T.

Cool

I ordered the NAV for two reasons..first is that I figure someone like me that orders this car in Touring trim would want it (resale wise)...and second because they are fun...I've used NAV systems on rental cars over the years and they are very helpful in unfamiliar surroundings especially if your with a bunch of guys on a sports remote...(also..if you have the option to change the language of the voice on the system...well, never mind...guess it was a guy thing)

The way i see it, You are already spending alot of money the car. Why not spend a little more and get everything. It will really help the resale value as well.

I didn't get nav frankly b/c I can't afford it! Well, maybe I could have afforded it, but if your a college student like me, and have never taken a road trip longer than 2 hours then nav is just a waste of money, I will use that extra money I saved to tint my windows, maybe add some aftermarket parts etc...

I got the Nav because one of the things I enjoy most is driving out into the numerous mountain twisties in southern california and exploring for great roads to drive. When I do this, I like to know where I am so I can find it again later.
My current car doesnt have a Nav built in, and so I use a handheld Garmin GPS - it works but its not very detailed, clumsy, and the batteries die quickly. When I saw the Z had an option for one I went for it without a second thought.

I can understand your opinion that the nav is not needed if the track is the only place you care about, but there's no need to call people snobs for getting it. Try driving somewhere you're not familiar with sometime in a car that has one and I think you'll see they can be handy.

Getting back on topic...
My car is due for Sept. delivery and, obviously, does have the Nav.

This day in age where computers are everywhere, so why not have one in your car. Everything is getting high tech. There is no reson you should ever have to hassle around with looking at a paper map. having to take your eyes off the road.
Your and my taxes pay for all the Birds in the sky, Why not take advantage of it.

Performance, Redline Got the Navigation Or Course. Should Be in MN Sept 4 give or take two days i was told.

I didn't get the nav for the cost. I believe that I could put an LCD panel in the nav spot, and hook up not only an aftermarket NAV system but other cool things as well for less than $2K.

I didn't opt for the NAVI system since I didn't want to spend the extra $$ that it costs. I also couldn't find any real benefit of having it for myself. But that doesn't mean that its not going to be a viable option for some people. To each their own right?

I don't believe that there's a "fee" persay to use the navi system. I think that you'd have to pay for DVD's for it though. I'm not sure if they're regional or just updated every now and then.
