Quick lessons learned on the road...
Before i start this, I will say that yes, I know trying to race on the street is stupid, and I am a tard for even considering it, but this is a quick tale of how I learned this lesson (almost the very hard way)
Last night heading down the highway at right about dusk time, i was cruising along with my girlfriend in my new Z (had only had it since wed
), when all of a sudden we were passed casually by a ram air trans am and a corvette. The drivers of both cars went by admiring the lemans sunset z, each gave an accepting head nod and a wave, and we all went on our way down the road. I changed lanes to pass a car, and the three of us were in a line going down the road in light traffic. After a few miles as the traffic cleared away, the two cars both gunned it down the road and there I thought "what the hell, why not just have some fun" (see disclaimer above). I ended up getting cut off by some a-hole in a BMW 740 who swerved to block me, I should be thanking this person today. Less than a minute later, as I finally got around the BMW, my girlfriend and I saw some cars braking heavily in front of us, and as we both looked fourther up the road we let out some explitives as we saw the still spinning, smoking, fluid slinging chasis of the ram air firebird being tossed from side to side of the highway. As we went past, the car was easily totalled, both the driver and the passenger were moving inside, and I called to report the accident. The car had no sheet metal left on the passenger side, and there was not an untouched pannel on the car, it was left tangled up in the wire barrier seperating the north and south bound lanes of traffic.
I felt like an *** not stopping to make sure the people were OK, but seeing as the corvette was stopped there, I figured if the cops see a wrecked sports car, with two other sports cars stopped for each other, someone might be suspicious of the goings on. And I wanted nothing to do with that... But that was a very "scared straight" moment, and one which I almost learned the hard way. And as ashamed as I am to say I was almost there in the "race" myself, I am not afraid to say that I did learn my lesson from the experience.

Crazy, you got lucky. And smart move not stayin, mightve made the situation worse. Remind of a time I was on the 101s, and here comes an accord and v6 stang speeding by 100+ in traffic at around 10pm. They flew by us so fast, i felt the force of them move my car a lil. So i think to myself, "there gonna wreck one day"
A few turns later i see that 4/5 lanes are slamming on breaks and there is a 5+ car accident. These idiots took out so many people with them, it seemed like a bomb went off..

having fun is one thing, but flat out racing on the highway in traffic is another...
was just an eye opening experience, things happen fast, and there was literally just one car that kept me out of the whole tangle.
from my brief experience at racing on the streets, i learned a leson and came to this conclusion: you can have fun on the streets, but when it comes to racing, its worth the track fee.

That's definitely a sobering experience. It's a shame, too, since they gave you a thumbs up and it likely would have been a simple, friendly run through the gears. At least, that's what I would have thought. I guess not.... they must have really been gunning it, or swerving. At any rate, glad you're okay and you didn't have to go through this the hard way to learn something.
If a run through the gears on a straight highway causes a wreck like that, they shouldn't be driving in the first place. As long as there is no traffic or pullouts, racing will only weed out the moronic drivers who can't stay in a straight line.
since i wasnt up there, i cant say whether or not it was more than a run through the gears or an all out drag. i am assuming it was all out though, and i also cant say what they collided with. my best guess is they tried to change lanes or swerved to miss someone/thing and lost control.
i am pretty certain it was an all out race for fun on the highway, mash the fun pedal and see who would be embarrased... looks like the trans am was MORE than embarrased. there was a rain a bit before the race, and it is completely possible they found a puddle and lost it at that speed. the roads were dry, but there was still water collevting in a few places.
its hard to say what exactly happened, like i said, it was just a VERY eye opening experince as to how quickly things can go VERY wrong...

I feel with you.
I was on the highway tonight, coming back from shopping with my girlfriend.
This BMW M6 came right next to me, desperated to race with me.
There was pretty decent amount of cars on the road.
I know that he got like 500 hp, but even if I tried to race,
It would be very dangerous because of traffics.
So I decided not to race. He finally gave up on me, and passed me.
I think I made a right choice, because I don't want to put other people's
lives in danger. I rather be safe.
It's not a fair race anyway, I guess.

thats the right decision
you can have your fun on the road (and believe me i do), but when it comes to racing, its worth the track fee... it is WAY cheaper than court/lawyer/fine cost, and at least you are among other people who are willing and ready to take the risks of racing, rather than innocent bystanders. it just makes sense. i mean, if you can have your fun with your car without racing on the streets, and be happy with it, then thats great. and i dont know how other people feel, but i love my Z, it is comfortable, fun to drive, and i can get into it and whip it around without having to race it or act like a jackass. but if i want to race someone, or put it through a flat out performance routine, there is a better place to do so than on the public roads... other people may disagree, and im not saying "drive like a wuss", im just saying have your fun, but keep it as fun to yourself, not a competition.
anyways, /pedestal

Yea if you want to race go to the track so you made a good choice. My friend had not street raced in about 5 months after getting pulled over for it and getting let off with just a speeding ticket because the cop was nice. but then decided he would like to race one of his friends for fun because he hadn’t street raced in 5 months and now he and his friend have suspended license for 1 year and huge fines. and he cant go into the fire academy or become a emt because of this. and he just got a vette so insurance is going to skyrocket. it just isent worth it.

Next time upgrade your brakes when you make your car that fast!!!!
thankfully he only broke his leg and is currently great!
