If you want it to last go with it, nissan may over do it by saying 1200 thats a bit steep but i just bought a new 07 touring and im at 690 miles and yea i have a few quick take offs and a few close to red lines but 99% im pretty conservative because when i want to strap on that vortech they release i want the life of the HR to be in the best shape possible and last. Treat your car like your girl take care of her an it will last forever... hehe or you could be nice to her in the starting and then it will be stuck wit u forever haha. Btw your car has seen wot and redline i guess when they unload cars at the docks they go all out =) im goin 800 miles an then puttin her to its full potential.

Treat it like the dirty ***** she actually is , cause you screwed either way. Being nice just gives you more reasons to say WTF when everything goes to sh$t. Happens with both cars and women.

You gotta laugh at some of these comments. How can you spend that much money on a new car and not follow the manufacturer's recommended break in? And you wonder why some of you have oil issues. lol

I just don't get it. Patience is a virtue.

Hang in there, you'll hit break-in in no time. Go out for random cruises, so you can get your mileage up. Exactly what I did. Was putting about 300 miles per week on, til I broke in. Now I'm at 23K and can't believe I've had the car for almost a year now.

+1. 1200 miles really isnt that much. Just follow the manuf recommendations. If you keep the car for 100k miles, this only accounts for 1% of the time you've driven it...not that big of a deal. The other 99% you can drive it how you wish

I never follow break in for anything.

It should be up to spec from the factory.

If it breaks, I have warranty. :-)

Breakin took about a week for me. A >600 mile delivery made it go really fast.

Drive it hard to 1000 miles and change the oil to full synthetic.

After 50 miles the car saw 30 to 40 redlines in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears. Never held the car at high rpm for more than a second or two. Currently has 2300 miles and is burning ZERO oil. No ticks or valve noise. Runs like a champ!

Break in simply is another way of saying "Use the 6th gear until 1200 miles."

Oil consumption problems are probably due to improperly set rings due to ***** foot driving! LOL

Moderate/high load, low RPM the first few miles. Change the oil at 100mi. Drive it however you want. Change to synthetic at 1000mi. It's never failed me. And I've owned a few brand new cars.

That's what I think too. Lugging the engine for 1200 miles on motorways at constant RPM is the worst you can do to seat the piston rings.

I revved my car from the start and the oil level never frayed from the max level. 05 35th ann. , 14k happy revvy miles
