yes, my argument is a TRUE sports car should be auto minus the highly upgraded ATs. I've said this in another thread as well.
Now you have added "highly upgraded AT's" to the list of cars that would qualify..

What else, big tires?

Maybe I am wrong....I didn't realise the altima had the same setup and tiptronic.

So a 4-door sedan is more of a "pure sports car" than the AT 350Z? Just want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly...

Tell the truth... Did some AT driver whoop your *** around the track one day so bad that it's caused you to begin this crusade against them? It's ok, you can be honest here.

True sports car according to web definition is a 2 seater. Can you not upgrade the Z AT?

+1 and it's a step towards the future of sports cars. While it's not a DSG, and therefore there is inherit lag...that lag is in deceleration, not acceleration. I personally have found that it's really only troublesome when a traffic light changes and I'm forced to decelerate quickly. When I drive in twisties, the lag (while still there), is much less a factor as after 2 years driving the manumatic, I have become accustomed to it's quirks. While I do not track my "auto" Z, there are members here that do...successfully, and with skill.

Wow, it just boggles me how much myth and missinformation about a thing such as a transmission is prevelant here. Maybe some people should do some research before spouting off hearsay comments and we might avoid a lot of these arguments.

Before any noobs try to flame me on this one, you better do a fourm search, like you should have done before posting. The old school guys will tell you I know my stuff regarding both manual and auto transmissions.

Your friend is sort of right. A turbo added to a transmission with a torque converter responds better. An automatic transmission that doesn't use a torque converter (ie SMG, DSG, etc) doesn't benefit from the turbo/TC combo. Torque converters work great with turbos because the TC has ability to slip and pre-load the turbos before launching eliminating turbo lag. Also, because the TC can torque multiply any time that the impeller is spinning faster than the turbine, it can reduce or eliminate lag during hard shifting and/or hard acceleration.

It performs better because of the torque converter not because it's an automatic transmission. Plate clutch based automatic transmissions don't benefit. It just happens that torque converters in cars are almost exclusively used in automatic transmissions.

You got that right.

Example: the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo.
5AT 0-60 time: 3.4 seconds.
6MT 0-60 time: 3.7 seconds.
