Congrats on both of your new babies! But just because you don't have the Z anymore, doesn't mean you can't keep hanging out here. My Z's been gone for 5 months and I'm still here.

Man, I seriously had a hard time handing over those keys today...regardless of getting a totally kickass truck.

But, thanks for the suggestion.

i think the smarter thing was just to get a very very cheap 4 door car. Insurance would be dirt cheap, you could still have your z. Like you said, you basically are only using the truck when your wife's murano is in the shop or something like that and that you are trading the z for the kids.
Am i wrong?

I was thinking of posting similar plan of action. I mean for the price difference he could have bought a nice used Pathfinder or something. Driving the Titan daily if he has anything of a commute is going to kill his budget. Not to mention the taxes and the new truck payment. Or, he could really save and just rent a car from enterprize for the day the Murano or Z is in the shop and bank the cash for the kid's needs etc...
Some of this creative (new) finance stuff I just don't get. No wonder people have a hard time getting ahead.
Now maybe money isn't an issue for him .... But, it doesn't make money sense to me if you like the Z you'll actually save money.
The Z is my DD so that I can save gas and have fun on my commute. I use my '01 Pathfinder for towing taking the nephews out for ice cream etc...
But, the OP has already done the deed so.... It's over ... Enjoy your new truck.

lol JK man congrants on the truck and i hope u get your Z back.
I'm thinking he has a need for a heavy hauler. Maybe a boat in his future. I still think he would have been better off just getting a used Pathfinder for this duty. Can you tell I love my Pathfinder with it's VQ?

Good post. Also, my dad got the same year pathfinder and color as the one you posted. Still running strong with 0 problems to this day.
I'm scared of the day when my wife says its time for a baby. I bought my Z pre marriage and I also own a honda accord so hopefully she (the Z) will be safe. I only want to trade in my Z for another sports car or a boat. Hopefully life will allow that one day. Best wishes to you and your growing family.
Well, I appreciate the questioning of my logic. Suffice it to say, I'm not losing money on having purchased the truck.
Not to go into details of my own personal finance, but money isn't an issue. But, just because we have it to spend, doesn't mean we like to. Believe me, we planned this purchase well in advance and we are very smart consumers.

In regards to buying a 3rd car: it isn't a smart choice either. Shelling out cash (I'd refuse to finance a 3rd car) for the purchase of this 3rd car and then paying insurance on 3 cars (when we only have 2 drivers) is the real waste of money.
Buying the truck actually saved me money as my insurance costs dropped quite a bit.
Yes, the truck will be a gas hog. Luckily, I work from home and the commute is a non-issue.
With a baby coming, as some of you probably know, tossing money around in a senseless manner isn't something you do. You plan ahead and make responsible decisions. Not irrational ones (like buying a 3rd car) just to keep a car I mainly drive on the weekends.
Wow, I felt like I had to justify myself. Anyway, thanks for all of the ideas and suggestions. We all have our reasons for what we do and this was the right one for us.
And for the record, my wife is quite petite (even while pregnant) and the jokes about needing a large truck just for her are quite silly. Funny, but silly.

i was talking about a car that was 5-8k..like a honda accord sedan or some where along that line. Insurance is 35-50 per month which is dirt cheap. I just dont' see reasoning of financing another brand new vehicle and then you saying you dont' want to throw money around. I'm not sure how long you have had your z and how much you paid of it so far. I just hope you made atleast 1k out of the deal when trading it in. We all know trading in cars is a bad move and you will always lose money of the deal.
Maybe i just want you to keep the z, which is too late now.

Understood. I wanted to keep it too.
But, it just wasn't practical right now. Not for us and our situation at least.
I actually got a little over $2k for the car (I bought it last December). Of course, I didn't even mention a "trade in" until I negotiated my final price on the truck. They didn't like that at all.
I normally NEVER trade in a car. EVER. But, there are so many Z's on the market here in St. Louis, that my attempts at "selling it outright" were going no where. As a matter of fact, this is the first time I've EVER traded in a car.
I priced her to sell at $17500 (KBB puts it at $21k w/ 25k miles) and ran the ad on several sites and local newspaper..and even on this site for a while. No bites and I was running out of time (baby's due in a month and a half).
So, I did the unthinkable and traded her in.
I owed $17k and got $19.5k because I wouldn't take any less. They pushed to only give me payoff because they said they have a hard time unloading (selling) Z's during the winter here in St. Louis. I simply told them no deal and picked up my **** and walked out. Of course the "manager" was able to make an exception.
They then tried to tell me that there was an issue with the carfax info on the car. Come to find out, they put in the wrong VIN.
It took me nearly 3 hours to make this deal. Which when I bought my Murano from them in 2006, I was in and out in 30 minutes.

Anyway, good observation. The truck is gonna be the future baby, boat, ATV hauler.
