Default New Z, not anymore :(

Bad news. After just 6 weeks of owning my brand new z I was rearended pretty darn hard last night. Guy was going about 20 mph into the back of me. Only damage was to the rear bumper and it is marked up pretty bad and dented in. Surprisingly little damage for as hard as the hit was. Neck and back aren't doing good and I've been on the couch resting all day because of it. The thing I am really concerned about is now I have a brand new $35k car that isn't worth crap anymore because it will have to be repaired and who knows yet what all is messed up on it. My real question is has anyone else been in this situation and had anything done about diminished value of the car>?

When his insurance contacts you be sure and get your diminished for it, not just the repair costs.

Sorry about the incident. Diminished value is a well discussed subject. Please search.

When I had my accident, back in February, I was told by my insurance company that I'll retain the value of the car, since the damages have been repaired. They said the value only diminishes when the damages are left uncorrected.

tell that to the guy who wants to pay you upwards of several thousand less because he can find the exact car of yours, without any previous damage at all

Sorry to hear this after u only have the car for short time.
Don't be concerned just let insurance pay up & it's will look new again!

I just bought my Z on 10/24 & same night scraped up front bumper on my driveway.
6 days later some A-Hole thru a egg @ it and damaged the hood to tune of $675.00.
Funny it missed the clear bra by 2 inches otherwise would be no damage.
Oh well it's only a car & nothing in life is meant to last forever including our own lives!

I know what you guys mean. But if I can get money and I can, why not? Plus I would like to get some cash and pay off some of the car, or gets some summer wheels and tires. Just wondering what peoples experiences were. I know the companies always tell you there isn't, but I was involved in a law suit a few years ago after I was told that and recieved a good chunk of cash from winning the class action suit. I am not a sue happy person, but it just ticks ya off that the new car you buy your wife is suddenly damaged. I am more concerned about my back at this point though. Thanks for the responses.

Dead on.

I am curious if that same car was stolen. or totaled, would they pull the "it was damaged in an accident before, so you get less".

I would however the problem is I just had a false floor put in there and 2 more tens in a box against the back wall of the hatch area as well as my amps mounted under plexi there. So to make the hassle more if there is damage to the back wall which there HAS to be then they have to take the car to car toys and have my installer rip everything out so they can get in there, then gotta take it back to car toys after its all fixed so that they can put the whole system back together.

I have a friend that went to school for paint and body, and has been doing it for a while now. The specs they work within for repair jobs are much tighter than those from the factory. Basically, if the factory has a 2mm variance, they work within a 1mm variance of perfect. Go to a good shop and you will get a lifetime warranty on the work. My previous Cobra was involved in two hit and runs, and the work was warrantied by both the shop and my insurance company. So basically what I'm trying to say is the odds are good that car will be the same again, if not better than new.

Question

So did your insurance company compensate you for “diminished value?”
