I've got an 03 track with aftermarket suspension and 285/19's. I know i can hold a corner faster than my buddy's sti. So even being a little heavy in some people's mind, it is still more than a competitive sportscar. I could of sworn that it laped "the ring" in germany faster than a 911. Anyways, just a thought.

Agreed... Most of those people are doing just that... Looking aka speculating.
i was thinking EXACTLY that when i saw the very first post. now i'm not blatantly calling the OP a speculator, but not only are some of the weights on that list inaccurate, but we don't even know if that information was gathered in an "apples to apples" manner (in other words, we don't know if every weight on that list reflects curb weight, aka "full tank of gas, no driver").

Good info
don't mistake everything you read on the internet for fact.

...and for the record, the Z is not that heavy a car compared to most of its competition. some are just heavy and some just aren't...as i'm sure you all know by now, it depends on trim level and, to some extent, model year. is it still too heavy for my taste? yes, if i'm going to track it. but i can't complain seeing as how my Supra is slightly heftier than the Z coupes.

I was going from memory, but here is a source that has the roadster close to 3600lbs. (3576)

I know I'm splitting hairs but Motortrend list the 2005 Touring Roadster at 3517 lbs. (Pretty sure that was for the Grand Touring, heaviest of the bunch)

Being the OP, I got the weights from various magazines that had tested the car. I'm sure some were the loaded models while others were the stripped models who knows. I didn't read into it that far. But if we are just talking about option packages, I don't think the weight would vary more than 100-150 lbs either way unless it is a drastic change like a convertible version. But thanks for sort of..umm.not calling me a liar...I guess

Well in this link, it's 3576.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...s_pricing.html

But, more to the point, look at the other two in the test. 3070 and 3040... yet the Z is almost 3600lbs

I love the Z and think it's a great car. (That's why I bought one.) But people think it's heavy because...well...it is.

Use Nissannews.com. They have PDFs of the car's spec sheets.

Fwiw: my car also weighed in at ~3250 with a nearly full tank. I don't know why Nissan lists the car with a 3330lb curb. And I am a Touring.

the Z "feels" heavy because it has a tendency to understeer due to its suspension setup and its wide dimensions.... of course its not a dramatic amount but enough to instill the effect that its heavy...

my buddies base model with bolt-ons weighs around 3200 give or take 100 pounds.... he always has someone in his passenger seat

S2k is about 2800lbs and that's a vert. The Z roadster weighs, what? 3600-3700lbs??

The RX-8 seats four and comes in at about 3000lbs.

I dont know about anyone else but I can clearly see a bias here, S2K and RX8 weights are rounded lower (2864lbs & 3083lbs) and the Z vert is rounded higher, how convenient. I think Z is fine where it is, could be a little lighter, but also could be a little heavier.

If you think Z is heavy, look at the VW R32 at 3409lbs, a car smaller than Z weighs much more.

+1

I honestly believe Nissan changed their criteria when it comes to "curb weight". The 03-05 are upwards of 150 lbs lighter than the '06.

I just don't get how they can add that much weight when there's no real difference between the two (unless the rev-up engine, sound deadening, HID, LEDs and extra aluminum trim made a difference ... I highly doubt it).

Other '06 owners have weighed there cars in our region and they've all been roughly the same as the 03-05 owners. We had a track day about a year and a half ago where 16+ Zs were weighed. The '06s didn't stand out as being significantly heavier.

Not sure why they would go out of their way to pad the curb weight, but you guys have to remember that 75% of Z owners could care less how much their car weighs. It's not a great marketing statistic.

I agree here. The Z IS a heavy car. A two seater that is around 3100-3300 lbs??? Yeah, that is a bit on the heavy side. It does handle its weight pretty well, but I am glad this is my DD and not my track car. It needs a diet to be a decent track car.

Anyone who says the 350Z is not nimble does not have a clue what they're talking about. In autocross, my Z eats for breakfast the cars listed above. They don't stand a chance in a road course either, which is probably where the Z performs best. With the right suspension mods, the Z is a very competent car on the track, notwithstanding its weight. Majority of the owners here will not see track time with their Zs so why they're even concerned about the Z's weight is a mystery to me.

Majority would be an understatement. I'm a novice went it comes to tracking my Z (1/4 drag) but I have taken 30+ passes with it. Curious to know who else in this thread alone have tracked their Z one way or another.

Honduh-envy.

(Seriously though, I initially couldn't believe the data until I saw multiple runs showing 1.4+g-to-1.4+g in slaloms -- in less than 0.5 second!)

Are you a Z owner or a Honda owner? ... not sure why you'd go to this site if you're the latter.
