Default haters... again

I don't know why it always happens, but there is always someone messing with my car. I've had drinks thrown on it, it's been spit on, had cans left under the tires, and recently, someone sprayed an oily substance all over it. I had to wash it with dawn dish detergent just to get the oil off. Of course, that cut the wax as well and I had to re-wash the car with car wash and then dry it/wax it. Great, it needed to be done anyway. But the catch... my window mouldings absorbed the oil and now I can't even go through a drive-thru without streaking my glass. When I open and shut the doors, I get a 1/4" strip of oily crap at the bottom. It's obvious that someone intentionally did this, as there are oil stains (spatter) all around my car. A car just wouldn't leak like this.

The other night, I saw the car that was beside me pull up. I asked the owner if he had stuff on his car as well. He did. Then he asked who I thought did it. I told him that I reported some people for harassing me, as well as cussing out little kids that were playing outside while I was washing the car 1 day. He had a passenger (some fake thug kid) who immediately pointed to the apartment that I reported and told me all about the incident. That pretty much tells me who did it. As bad as I want to just beat the hell out of their cars or knock on their door to unleash a beat down, I have no SOLID proof. I have to wait for it to happen again and HOPE that by some small chance, I can catch them in the act. I am on a waiting list for a garage at my apt. but I'm STILL waiting and have been since August. I am seriously considering trading in my car on something less fun b/c of this stuff. EVERY TIME I go out, something bad happens. Either someone messes with my car and ruins my day or someone will try and pass in a no passing zone, etc. It's just annoying to own a car like this now. I love the car but it's just not worth the added stress. People act like it's a ferrari. If you actually work hard, it's not out of reach. I wish haters would just realize that.

Anyway, I guess the point of this long rant/story is that I'd like some input on what can be done. How have others on here dealt with the bad stuff that comes with driving the best car ever made? I love my Z and I don't want it to go but I have a life that doesn't need added stress. What's the best way to catch a hater?

park your car where you can get a good view. Then get your camcorder on a tripod and start recording it for a couple days...Im sure you can get a good result!

My apartment is on the back of the building. I am going to the office today to see about a garage. I thought about leaving a camera in the car but the windows fog up at night now and if someone does something, they may try and break in after realizing they are caught on tape. Maybe it's still worth a shot. Someone would definitely hear that.

Yea it sucks... I have to park in a parking garage with a guard far away.
But I think its worth it at the end of the day.
I left it parked outside overnight one time but never again.

I havent had too many problems like this so far. The garage would be the best solution obviously. I would record it, and not worry about it. If they do it again, you have it on camara, if they dont, then you have no problems. I would document what happened, when it happened, your conversation with the other neighboor etc. The oil absorbtion in the seals I would consider somewhat permanent damage, and worth taking someone to court over. Just have your ducks in a row if the opportunity presents itself. Maybe even file a complaint with the police so its on record. Lastly, I would save the revenge, at least until the garage is in place lol!

+1. Lol. I was thinking the same thing, while reading other people's posts. I definitely can feel what the OP is going thru. I have the same problem with these neighborhood kids who think the own the streets over here. They certainly love to spit on my car with freshly softened gum. It takes a lot of elbow grease to get it off, especially with the sun baking it on the paint.

Terrible situation, and there's really not too much you can do. Hell, even if you don't have people attacking your car, you still have to deal with so many people that just have no respect for someone else's property. And it seems to be getting worse. It's tough out there! Good luck.

I guess I'll start looking for a house. F living with people you don't know. I think I'm going to write "Warning, the owner of this car vandalizes cars" with chalk in front of their parking space. Maybe have a friend at a vinyl shop make signs to put up at the entrance. "Warning, the people in 237 vandalize cars." A co-worker told me to put long zip-ties on their axles. But it will get ugly. My insurance is going to have to paint my car.

I like the whole alarm system involving flame throwers underneath the car. Or garage it..lol. You could do this: tempt who you thought did it by making them angry in some fashion, then camp out in front of your car with a small rifle/pistol. If they come that night, shoot them in the legs and there you go.

I just used a clay bar and re-waxed again. I parked in my normal space. Check out all that staining on the ground from where they unloaded this stuff on my car.

My only guess is that they put baby oil and water in a water gun? Whatever they used covered the entire car and then some. This was a clear, greasy oil. Luckily, it didn't do any permanent damage.

Even if I do catch them, NC law says that you can't use force to prevent damage to your property. You can only use force if your health or the health of others is in danger. I'd get locked up over that 1. That's BS.

Hey bro, I work in the apartment industry for years. This is something you should talk to the manager about so you can get to the top of the list for the garage. Tell them about your problems and situation. Do it nicely and with a bit of friendliness I'm sure they would be able to put on at the top of the list. If they refuse, call corporate and complain.

That's another problem. I work the same hours as the management, going in 1 hour before they do. I never have time to talk to anyone. I am off right now for Thanksgiving, but so are they. I did call them but they want me in the office on Monday. Can't do it. My girlfriend has days off and staggered hours, so she has been trying to talk with the manager, but all she says is that the oil was probably an accident. We encouraged them to come and look at the stains, but they just don't care.

Here's the perfect way to do it. Complaints should be made in 3 ways to be effective - especially to communities that don't care about their residents that much.

1. Call and leave a detailed message
2. Find their email address on forrent or rent.com
3. Email them the picture you posted and write out the details in a calm, clear matter.
4. Say that this is the (enter # here) time that you have to deal with this and you feel the need for the office to help you get a garage asap.
5. Set up an appointment before or after work for one of you to come in and speak with the manager and manager only - no one else.

If that doesn't get your name to the top of the list call their corporate office and file a complain as well as get the Senior/Area/Portfolio Manager's email and contact info and send them a copy of the email you wrote to the manager.

When you go talk to them in person it's best to bring a copy of that picture as well. Also the best thing is also to get to know the maintenance and groundskeeper staff. They are always outside and will be able to keep and eye out for you.

Once corportate gets an email and see that you have a valid complain and concerns for your property - they will get it resolved. Most apartments have the ability to solve 99% of you problem. I know for the 3-4 companies I have helped consult in the past it have been easy fixes that helps the residents' stay much more enjoyable. PM me if you need anything at all. I want to help you get a garage asap.
