my bad, i should have specified what i meant. i meant that a used M3 is as much as a brand new 350Z, and as i said i bought my car more than 10 months ago, however i began looking for a car in the end of 2006 when E46 M3 was still new right (2001 - 2006 e46 M3)

thx for all replys, interesting to see how split everyone is.. in my experience for 24-28k you can find a good condition E46 M3. The 07/08 is much faster then the 03-05? I will have to drive both, Thanks again, check rep.

Depends on what you want to do, if yu eventually want FI then id go with the Z, i have been researching FI options for the M3 and they are both expensive and hard to do.

There are so many experienced and great shops that can build Zs its crazy not many for the M3. I guess its the super high compression and already highly tuned engines that the M3 have who knows, I am no M3 expert. But if you want your car to have basic NA bolt ons and be done then Id go with the M3, if you want to go full FI then Z all the way. Either way, I have a Z and it is really fun to drive. My 2 cents. I dont think you will be that unhappy with either, both are in my top choices of cars.

I got my z around the same time my friend got his e36 M3, I like the Z a lot better, and I used to have a BMW and know how great they are. The e36 isnt faster than the z and I have a stock 03 performance.

BMWs are great, and right now im considering getting a beater e30, but I remember taking my friend to the BMW dealershp for a check up, and it cost him around $150 just for a look around, they wanted to charge him another $150 TO CHECK what the ABS light ment. Its too expensive to maintain.

I too thought about buying a bmw. That's all my dad drives and I have experience will several models. He has had 5 models in the past 10 years with none of the problems you guys talk about. Worst he had was issues with a b.s. salesman who promised us something and then reneged on it.

But, when I went downtown to work, I saw BMWs everywhere. All models. That turned me off. The Z is not practical, so you wont see the average person driving one. They will get a 4 door or "fake" sports car. The Z is the best buy for a sports car for the money by far. It has its faults too. But after buying one, it was the best car decision I have ever made. I absolutely love to drive it. I always take the long way home.

But I am also a tinkerer, and the ability to mod and the available parts make it ideal for me.

^ you may see BMWs all over the road but you will not see an M3 that often.

also I noticed that there are literally about 10 times more brand new E92 335i on the road than 7 year old E46 M3. Every morning, I see three 335i's parked on Gorge Rd. Cliffside Park, NJ. 335's are great cars but everyone and their mothers have one. I'm really getting tired of seeing those.

If i were you I would get the newer 350z with 300+hp over a used M3. Close in performance, cheaper to mod and maintain.

termigni is right. Thats because most people lease their BMWs, just like any other luxury brand. you are more likely to see ones that are 5 years or newer. Cheap way to get into an expensive car. They normally dont buy after the 5, and get into another lease.

Deal is. .get the bmw and you'll pay more to maintain it
get the Z and you pay less to maintain it plus there are more parts made as far as after market. .because engine wise. .what do u really do to an m3???
NEVER buy a car off a lease. .because the previous driver has the mentality that it's not their car. .so they rarely to NEVER maintain leased car's. .
peronally had a 1987 bmw 325 is worked and i loved it. .the newer bmw's are kinda garbage. .to much electronics go with the Z. .

if you have a BMW lease, you have to take it to them for all maintenance. Its mandated in the lease. If you don't, you pay big penaties. Almost everything is covered anyway. Tires and brakes is all you have to worry about.

But the real question is how much do you want to mod? How much do you want to go for speed and HP? Your options for both are greater and cheaper with the Z.

wrong. Having a lease car is probably a lot better maintained than a non leased car. When you have a lease car, there are a bunch of guidelines and contracts that you sign making sure when the car is brought back, it has to be in immaculate condition. Also can't go over a certain amount of miles each year as well.

If we could go back in time, I think we'd agree that we would wish we could've talked him out of buying a Z. Even now, I'm holding out hope that he'll decide he hates the car, sell it, and go back to Honda-Tech where immature punks like this belong. From what I've heard, douchebags don't stand out there......it's more the norm.

Actually this is not true at all. I have friends that run dealers, and they get leases in all the time that don't even have the oil changed EVER on the car. Many don't care when they lease a car.

You've got to be kidding me. Are you seriously defending this kid? Did you not read that thread? It took me a few seconds to post that link, so that other buyers/sellers will beware of this douche.

I won't defend him, as I certainly disagree with how he handled the transaction with you, but revisiting all these old threads and trashing him is unacceptable. If he bothers you so much, just put him in your ignore list and move on, but don't turn this into an ongoing vendetta...please. Thanks.
