Lightbulb RAM Air setup on Z????

Just wondering about everyone's thoughts on a RAM Air setup for the Z. Looking at the cut-a-way picture of the Z, looks like it'd be a really simple process. Aftermarket fiber-glass or carbon Fiber hood with a air vent either placed in the center of the hood (Camero SS & Ferrari 575 style), or on the driver side (if nessesary). The way the intake piping comes off the intake manifold, it looks like it'd be pretty simple to re-route it, to a hood mounted air filter and and air intake vent.

Anyone want to photoshop a concept of this hood????

Default air ram

I had a 91 300zx na, and i installed a ram air kit on it. But the kit did not involve cutting the hood. It was more or less a funnel surrounding the intake which was a K,N air filter. I did notice a increase in HP. Not sure how much though. But i will look into it for the 350z. Have to see first person how the engine bay is layed out.

RAM air usually provides little increased HP, except at very high speeds.

I don't think it would make much difference on the Z. The Z has a ram air type system from the factory, but there are no scoops or anything to direct air into it. It pulls air right from behind the grille straight into a flat panel filter. It looks like it will work very well and be almost as effective as a true ram air system.

That's right guys, the best you can expect is .6psi and that's at 100+mph. Bikes do much better because the air only has a few inches to go before it's into the engine.

Ram air is not the way to go.

I think a supercharger is going to be the best option for the money. A turbo is great, but, be careful not to over do it. Too much HP can make the car less driveable.
