Default Aluminum Kick Plates- production v. concept

Thanks Seedy for posting all of the pics from last night (including a 350 w/ accessories) on your site www.350zforum.com - I hope you don't mind me posting one of your pics here (posted, not linked).

On to the point of my thread- Here is a pic of the production kick plates (bottom) along with one of the showcar pics (top)- I still think that the plates look great- I would prefer however if the aluminum covered the entire area of the door sill, which it does not seem to do. How do they look to you guys- Anyways, it is not such a big deal- for 80 bucks you can't go wrong, and I think they look better than w/o...

Ethan

That kinda sucks! Nissan's own little bait and switch tactic. I really liked the kick plate shown by Nissan and obviously it worked with the car. I would have thought that it would have been a static item. Actually, with the new design pictured, I prefer the standard black plastic with the little metal Z emblem. I was gonna have the dealer install the kickplates, but not now.

I agree, the do not look right the original version is so much better, I would have rather gone for the black with the raised Z as well.

I noticed the switch as well...

I prefer the concept version (the black with raised Z had me second guessing though) but I think the new version will lend itself better to the darker colors.

I'm just looking for a nice clean contrast that is stylish without being gaudy....like the silver door handles on silverstone exterior. I hoped all would blend well together and so far it has....

They should extend much further forward, looks bad just stopping there, and the black surround looks terrible. Wish I could get my money back/cancel those. Do you have a pic of the standard black plastic to compare?

If you don't get the aluminum kickplates, standard will look like this:

The title of this thread should be production vs. What we were told was identical to the production car (yet was not) at the Detroit Auto show.

Do you think if I took out the aluminum ones, that I could put back the black ones with the silver Z? Think they will just throw the standard ones away when they put in the new aluminum ones?

I think the concept kickplates would be more prone to getting dents and dings than the new production version. The production version looks fine to me.

I agree. I was never told the standard sill would look so cool, were you? I wish I had never ordered any options except the air bags. The optional floor and trunk mats are going to bite the big one and we'll have to throw them away and buy some NISMO ones. I think Nissan is trying to cheap out anywhere they can.

At least we will be able to tell who pre-ordered, anyone with those horrible kick plates and crappy floor mats.

are you guys really upset? When I first heard about the switch I thought the alluminum was just a few inches on the black and was upset also. But now seeing them I feel better. I do like the pre production version better but I don't think the production one is bad. although If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't get them, the silver Z looks great.

I'm with goofyZ on this one.

Would i rather have the preproduction ones...sure who wouldn't!

However, i am not disappointed...i think they will look fine against a Brickyard. Good contrast.

That's hilarious! I ordered the kickplates and floor mats. I am excited that I did, as I still love the brushed aluminum against my Super Black Z.

Screwed! I tell ya, screwed!

We placed order for kickplates when we weren't given the pictures of the actual ones...

Looks like embossed aluminum foil.

Ahh well... it's an accessory.
