Unhappy Sad Day Traded in my Z today

So I did it and I am still regretting it. I traded in my Z. I bought it in november and put 19800 miles on it(and by the way never had a prob except for front tires which were replaced under warranty). I got an offer I could not refuse, so I bought a Subaru WRX STi. I am getting the first one in Utah. I plan on keeping it long enough to get another new Z. It is odd I really dont like the car that much(the Subaru). It is a hell of alot faster but not nearly as much fun to drive. I cannot stand the rice burner hood scoop and tail fin. I hate them. the dealer is really bugged that I wanted to drive my Z 1 last time before taking home my subaru. Dont roast me to bad I will be back in a Z soon enough hopefully by July.

we'll leave the reasons aside, but you could probably sell the subie on ebay, turn a nice little profit, then buy another Z near invoice!

That is why I did it they gave all the money for my Z and I figured with almost 20,000 miles I better take it while I can. The Subaru guys are stunned that I am not that excited about the STi. They kept telling me what a great car it is and all that.

It IS a great car. But I know what you mean ... I'm having the same problem and thinking about passing on my chance for the Sube, even though it's a monster, just because I like the Z so dam much.

The subie is just ugly compared to the 350Z.

Got to agree with bigworm521 here - it sounds like you 'made your own bed'.

I love my Z but the STI is an awesome piece of machinery that deserves respect. I'm keeping the Z but my Plat. Silver STI is on the way.

You won't be too unhappy for long. Once you get used to driving the STI, I guarantee you will not be able to get that smile of your face. Its nice not to have to wear seatbelt for a change too - you''l know what I mean the first time you hit the A-Pad (only joking: you should always wear your seatbelt children)

Seriously, its a great car. Especially if it gets wet/white - it really comes alive. But - it is a true enthusiasts car. I can't see too many 'regular' people spending $30,000+ on an Impreza, nevermind how freakin' fast it is.

I've been a WRC fan forever (and a huge Subaru Rally fan) and I would buy the STI just on heritage and principal alone - nevermind its awesome performance. However, I still love my Z though - just can't get enough of the styling and design, and the 'feel' of the car is spot-on. Can't go wrong with either car.

Hmmmm I am interested to hear what you guys think after you have had the STi for a while.

I got rid of mine in under a year to get the Z. Whilst I always wanted the Z as soon as it came out, I got not wait to get rid of the STi !

I summed it up as a cheap - hyundai type car with bolt on fast bits. Quality was a shocker, from struts continually failing, open door warning lights always half on, to plastic parts falling out from under the dash to name a few ! This happend on many cars I know, mine was not a lemon.

It weas great to drive however, handled great, accelerated very well but in the end, the gearing of the car just sent you mad! Dirty great big hole in the power band under 4000rpm and you always had to be in the best gear or you would get beat by a Hyundai!

Very easy to get a fair bit more power though which is one of the draw cards.

Mike

whats the point?

Your going to make 1 grand if your lucky, and more than likely you will lose money on the deal.

There are not many Z's left to be sold this time of year, do a search on Nissan's website. The pickings are pretty slim.

Kind of silly man, if you are just going to buy another Z in 3 weeks time.

You should have just traded your Z for another Z,
Eric

most people bought the Z not for it's performance, but for it's looks, heritage, and overall value.

If you want fast, there are plenty of cars out there that can beat our Z, even Subaru, example Dodge SRT-4. You have to feel it in your heart when buy a car.. and 350Z is the car for me!

Good luck with your STi.

I bought my Z for the feels, looks and performance. 287 hp is nothing to scoff at. Although there will always be cars that are faster than ours the Z looks the best. Sure the SRT-4 is fair competition (although it doesn't blow us out of the water) it still looks like a neon. I wouldn't want to be seen in an econobox like that. Plus, chicks really dig the Z!

You have sedans and econoboxes that want to be sports cars and then you have sports cars.

STi is FAST... STi handles great...

STi if fugly still...

I wouldn't trade in my Z for the STi, but I sure as hell would like to have BOTH!

I find it exceedingly interesting that Dodge understated the power output of that little SRT-4. It's rated at 230 something hp, right? And yet, the dyno results I've seen have shown it putting down 230 something at the wheels, meaning there is far more under the hood.

Anyone else read that same info? I must say that this is the first time I've heard of a manufacturer *understating" power output.

So I have the Subaru and man It is really fast. It would flat out smoke the Z. That said the Z is 10 times the car. The only reason I traded my Z was because it had over 19500 miles on it. I would have gotten killed in another year with 40000 miles on the clock and only 1.5 years old. I really dont like the subaru. Everyone makes fun of the wing on back most people dont even know what it is. I have an offer on for a hell of a lot more than I bought it for and I am taking it. I cant wait to get into a Z again. Overall I am glad I did it because I am getting a 0 mileage Z for no cost to me at all. gotta love the Z...............................

I don't care how fast the Subaru is......that is one of the ugliest cars on the road....and something I would never own. It's the perfect example of a thoughtless, artless, soul-less design.

Function should be reflected in the form.....and they sure missed the boat with this monstrosity.

" I really don't like the Subaru".You don't like the Sub and trading in a car you do like. This entire thread is ridiculous.Go enjoy your riced up econobox and I will stick with the Z.
