Default GUILTY!!!... of being a newb

Here is what I gotta ask. I'm always looking at posts on peoples mods and mod questions and I realize that they are speaking a language I do not understand.
Can you guys give me some resources so I can study up and learn about what different mods are doing? I want to know the nitty gritty details about why certain mods bump up your cars performance. I can't find any posts on this site that go into this detail. I only find info on installs and recommendations. Rather than googling it, perhaps someone knows some good resources off the back. I figure if I headed out to a meet I would just embarass myself and get flamed in person... get pissed and start a fight, so that doesn't seem like a great option. I figure getting flamed on a post is better.
Yea... I am a Newb... but I don't want to be one forever, so do urself a favor and graduate 1 newb on this site by educating him.

Thanks in advance,
B-med

I applaud you asking, and the way you asked...

That being said, no one is going to write you a long winded response explaining what all mods do. Just browse the forum, read the FAQ, and use the search feature.

I honestly cannot understand what you are looking for?

give me an example (and I am not reading your post, just skimming cause it is too long in one huge paragraph)

you don't find everything on one site. take the concept (are you talking about 'why does a larger exhuast make my car faster?' or 'why does increased negative camber help handling' or something like 'what the hell are headers?')

Very rarely does anyone on here take the time to explain something fully, and in clear English. But once in a while it happens, and it's refreshing. I'm not saying I could do any better -- I'm just stating my observation.

Sorry if alot of this is honda referenced.. But I learned a hell of a lot from this forum about cars....

This is on exhausts.. It's a nice start to understanding them..

The jargon can be confounding. I doubt if there is a standard abbreviation for phrases like “high-flow catalytic converter.” The more you read the more you become familiar with the jargon. Some members go to the extreme and write incomprehensible threads. Jargon does not necessarily equate to smart. Sometimes it just lazy.

We often discuss mods, such as exhaust, without an understanding of the underlying theory. On many occasions the theory is like a black art: this is no right or wrong answer.

My favorite site is “How stuff works.” Very informative.

Read...read...read....read. There was once a time when I had no clue what an MREV2 was and what it did. I read and went to manufacturer's website's and read some more. So if you want to know what an MREV2 or 5/16" Iso Thermal Spacer with Aramid gasket and coolant bypass valve will do, read here http://www.motordyneengineering.com/

I would say more like. "What the hell are headers" and "Why does a larger exhaust make my car faster.

Thats true. How stuff... might be a good start. I think that is what I'm looking for. Explanations that a newb would understand. Thanks David!

lol you cant just jump in and be able to learn all at once as if you browse the forum (including out side forums) over time you'll learn all of it... when you decide to get a certain mod you can simply ask for people opinions but those are JUST OPINIONs so dont be too upset... =D ... good luck to you and welcome bro!!
