That's the best way to explain the rust and water marks in the engine bay. That, or the dude just left the hood up all the time in the rain.

you can get metal to rust in 24 hours if you throw the right crap on it.
a visit to the HomeDepot and the bare metal on any car can age 30 years overnight.
