My roommate just bought a Z and while talking to the dealer he found out it had 107 miles on it.
Obviously he doesn't want a car that has been driven hard at the beginning of break in and was a little worried. After checking on the certificate of origin the odo reading is 98 miles.
Has anyone heard of a car coming from nissan with 98 miles already on it? I figured 15 or so would be normal for driving it on and off the boat but this seems high. Anyone else's car have this many from the factory?

I remember hearing that 1 or 2% have more miles from the factory for extra testing purposes or something. I wouldn't expect more than 50 for that though, so yes, 98 does seem somewhat high still. They may have used it for test drives too...Did he get a really good deal on it?

He got a pretty good deal. ~1000 over invoice and about 1800 cheaper than he could get here in texas. So not too bad.
The way I understood it to work is the cert. of origin is completed at the dock when the car is taken off the boat. So there would only be 9 dealer miles on the car. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

I've seen cars that were tested, and there's some documentation taped on the window (maybe on the sticker) that tells you as much.
You should be able to use that to your advantage. Just say something like, "if I bought this car new, and drove it for 100 miles, it would lose at least $1000 worth of value, and yet you want to sell it to me for full price? I'm interested, but I don't really know if this car has been broken in properly, or just broken! I'm taking a big risk here..."
EDIT: Oh, I see he already bought it. But maybe someone else will be in the same situation someday.

Yeah bought and paid for. He didn't find out about the miles till after the paperwork was done but since they were put on by nissan I would hope they were nice easy miles equal to break in. At least we know there wasn't some punk test driving it with no intention to buy it.
He got the best deal he could find on exactly the car he wanted so there's no hard feelings. Plus the drive home from boston to texas is gonna make up for that

I see. I thought you didn't know for sure whether it was from Nissan or the dealers. But if it's just the QA thing, it's no big deal. Maybe it's even a good thing, because if there was an obvious problem they would have noticed it.

What dealer do you work for. The only Brickyard Track w/o nav that we could find in texas oklahoma arkansas lousisana or new mexico was in el paso. They would not budge from msrp and weren't willing to trade to another dealer. A dealer in dallas offered 37500 out the door, but that was still alot more than the one in boston.

My dad owns some dealerships. Nissan is in San Antonio. I don't work there. Let me know if you need anything.

mine had 168 miles on it. They got it from another dealership...was the only SB Touring 6MT with Black Leather w/o Navi they could find. So...I ate it. Car seemed fine...and now with 1700 miles on it and 3 almost 4 months later. Not much I can do, but sit back...look at my car, n say...god damn, I'm glad I got this thing.
I got mine with 350 miles on it. Only DB Perf in the immediate area. They found it in Oklahoma. Texas didn't have one at the time. I didn't want to wait 6 months for one. Only 1400 miles now 2 months old.
