Lets look at Downpipes$400 bills for 10 dollers worth of material. It just doesn't makes sense.I know cause my friend owns an exhaust shop. 2,000 dollers for true duels?ah nobitch. 400 bucks is material & labor.Lets not even talk about the turbo kits, what a ferking joke. 7,000 dollers for a max of 3,000 dollers worth of parts? ITS price qouging at its best.

Mark up is one thing & price gouging is what makes me sick.

Here is a great article on sponsorship and how to go about it from JTuned written by Nadine Toyoda.

http://www.jtuned.com/content/templa...=290&zoneid=16

Remember, sponsorships dosn't automatically mean free parts or goods. Very rarely do you get 100% sponsorship from a company. My sponsors are listed in my signature. I have not paid any of them a fee for their sponsorship. They have all provided heavily discounted parts or services. In turn, I essentially market their products for them.

The reason why they don't just sponsor a "blank canvas" is because they need to see some potential in you to be able to market their product.

I have gone about gaining sponsorship, not just to gain free or discounted parts, but to meet some industry people. People that I share a common bond of expressing creativeness through automobiles. Meeting these people has been more important than just the parts themselves. Good luck to the OP and unfortunately you learned the hard way.

I did everything myself as well, but you get to a certain point and your hard work pays for itself.

To those that think being sponsored means, you didn't do it yourself, don't have an understanding of what it takes to be sponsored. In my case, my car was FI before I got a single sponsor. Not to mention that putting together a sponsorship proposal and making contacts in order to get sponsored takes more than just going to Volk and saying "hey sponsor me". I can not stress enough that sponsorships does not me FREE PARTS!!!!! I still paid for pretty much everything on my car. Not to mention, your car has to built to a certain point before a sponsor would even look at you.

Then again, sponsorships are not for everyone. It takes alot of dedication, commitment and leg work when you are finally sponsored.

Working with aftermarket companies really is a business relationship that you form. It's not just to get free parts.

So, sponsorship basically is like being a Food Lion MVP?

Sounds really cool.
