That's three days worth of work. You're over exaggerating. Chill out.

maybe it wasn't going 40 but that's what the witnes estimated, and your damn right i'm trying to get a new car. Tell me would you still want your Z knowing it was in an accident.

and how can you tell the body is straight just by the pics i provided??

Not trying to be a douche, just looks really odd to me.
when i go to the body shop tomorrow ill snap more pics, the pics i took were really random and general. i just took them really quick before they loaded it on the tow truck.

The damage really doesn't look to bad (from the pics).

For questions 1 & 3:
1. "No Fault" clause in California?
Nope. I think it was being considered not too long ago but was shot down.

3. The only thing you can do is work with your insurance company to get the total loss claim. However, if it is not close then they won't go for it.

after thinking about it, i wouldn't want them to total the car. I put too much money and time into it and that can't be replaced.

i just got off the phone with my insurance and they said as long as the other party accepts responsibility everything will be covered and my premium WILL NOT go up. The body shop is picking up the Z tomorrow morning to start the process. Hopefully nothing major. Yes externally it doesn't look bad, but i'm worried about the tranny and possible frame damage etc..

Wow you need to chill out, talking about getting your car totaled when it was BARELY hit. Seriously, you're freaking rear bumper cover is loose and there's a little hit on the front bumper. You don't have frame damage, okay? How do me and everyone else know just by your pictures? Common sense. Stop freaking out. Most people would be happy since this gives them an excuse to buy a body kit.

i like how everyone can say i was barely hit, yet they weren't the ones involved in the accident. Have you ever seen an accident where one car looked like nothing happened yet the other car looked like complete scrap metal? Maybe the Z is built like a tank. Happy...r u serious. Yes i'm very glad i got in an accident so i can now get a body kit . Bumper is a little loose, no i don't think so, the freakin tailight popped out when i got hit, and the rear quarter panel caved in a little.

People fail to realize that i was PUSHED into another car, meaning the car behind me had to have enough momentum to push my car about a 1/2 car length from a stopped position and cause the damage in the front. IF i was barely hit i probably wouldn't have even got near the car infront of me. LOGIC&COMMON SENSE > U. A little hit on the front bumper, um the front bumper punctured through the bumper cover. Plus my tranny(5AT) F'ed up. It's in gear yet it can be started(shouldn't happen in an auto, auto's usally need to be in park to start) it also can be pushed or pulled like it's in neutral, i highly doubt this is normal.

and why are ppl so upset that i want to total my car?? You are not the one who has to deal with possible long-term effects, hassle of not having your car or dealing with the finanacial loss.

No offense, but you sound like a teenage girl. I didn't see any buckles in the quarter panel. If it hit hard enough to do any considerable damage the bottom hatch would be pushed in along with the rear bumper support. Not to mention the reason the front support is punched through the cover is the same reason a piece of paper will rip if you tape it to two close tables and lay a weight on it. The cover is soft and when it was pushed in caught the support and ripped. Like I said maybe it did do that much damage. Pictures can be deceiving, but I've never seen any that deceiving. You're probably just over reacting. Nearly everyone's had a wreck. It's no big deal. Your insurance, or thiers should provide a rental. The car value won't decline. You'll be fine, it's not the end of the world.

I was "sandwiched" once. It sucks, but you have a better chance winning the lotto than getting it totaled. Obviously, the Corolla is at fault and shouldn't take too long for them to get back to you. Last time the guy that hit me covered all my rentals and repairs. If you want more, get a lawyer. You'll most likely get couple hundreds for pain and suffering.

...was flying at least 40mph...

I don't think so. He was doing about 14 MPH.

This is what a 40 MPH rear end looks like. (...and I was doing 25MPH)

Good news is Damn the 350Z tough as nails if you got hit full on at 40mph, unless you were slightly moving it doesn't look like it. You only have some visiable bumper damage on the front and rear quarter panel damage on the rear.

That's fixable turn in the claim and just get it fixed, don't let them try to straighten out the rear quarter make sure they put new ones on, you don't want putty work, make sure that they check for cracks and damaged done to interior and exterior areas of the car.

That's way off. Unless it's smashed bad he doesn't want a new quarter panel. To replace it they have to cut the old one out and put in a new one. They'll also have to paint more, since they can't blend and they'll have to put in more body filler to match up the edge.

bro you are totally right...i overreacted. Just never been in an accident before. I was freaking out me=ghey.

UPDATE 3/3/08 : Saw the adjuster today and just as a preliminary estimate they quoted me...$5139.52. This DOES NOT include the tranny and other issues not seen. This is just the body work and labor. They said they expect it to be higher after doing a thourough check.

estimated turn around time is 25 DAYS!! yes 25 DAYS!!

That is just plain

If not, I want to know the part number for the sensor and where it is located.

Answers to your questions:
1) No, California is a Comparative Liability State. (That is a fancy way of saying each party gets proportioned a percentage of liability and they are responsible for it)
2) The air bags did not go off do to the fact that there are no Air bag sensors in the rear of your car. The tranny may have locked if the drive shaft was pushed forward. (just a guess)
3) The other description was right about the damage being 75% of the car's value. However, I will add that you don't get a choice as to the car being a total loss. Your insurance contract gives your insurance company the right to repair or replace the car. You really don't get to delare the car a total loss.
I have some questions that maybe someone can help me on:

1.)Does california have a "NO FAULT" clause? My insurance was asking me over the phone and i didn't know (esurance)

2.)i have a 5AT and when i got hit, my transmission locked up. I was in manual mode when i got hit, and now the shifter will not move at all. the car starts but i cant put it into gear. But the weird thing is that the car can be pushed as if it is in neutral. My airbags DID NOT deploy, but from what i have been told is that even though they did not deploy a sensor could have been set off causing the transmission to lock.

3.) on what basis can i salvage the car, because even though the body doesn't look awful i don't think the car will be the same, and it's just gonna bother me until i get a new car.
I only wish local body shops in my area devoted a website to the status of vehicles.

Glad to see you're getting it back. Hope it's back 100%.
