I was on the interestate and accidently shifted from 4th to 3rd rather than 4th to 5th. How bad is this. I caught it pretty quick and got the clutch in to shift it to 5th but the tach did rev up to about 8k. My motor only has about 1000k on it as well.
Any thoughts? I was so upset when it happened, is my baby okay?

 

well, if you indeed went to 8k, i wouldnt worry unless you start feeling/smelling certaing differences in your engine. even then so, i would have it checked just in case.

did you feel any difference after the mis shift?
any smoke coming from exhaust?
any bad smells from exhaust?

those would be my first questions. then i would have my mechanic check out just to make sure...it did after all go to 8k as you say or even a lil more...

also another Q, do you happen to know the speed you were traveling at when thois happened?

 

Not exactly sure the speed, right around 85mph I think. I didn't notice any smell or smoke and it was running fine. At that point I keep it in 6th for a while so not to push it.
Didin't notice anything different at all, it still pulled just as a 350z should I just got nervous.

 

I've done that a few times ...its easy to do being the close ratio of the shifter....now I always keep pressure on the shifter a little to the right while going from 6th to 5th and this seems to work well......maybe an ondash gear position display might be a good idea in the next production year....
