I ordered my car on Feb 12th and I have been reading on this board and zcar for quite some time now. I have been in contact with my dealer and they have been very helpful...but I recently inquired about my car and was told to expect a oct delivery date per the production reports. I was originally told to expect a early sept delivery date from the same report just a couple of weeks ago. The dealer checked with the regional office and said that it was delayed b/c of parts.. I thought that the cars were somewhat being built by preorder date... I would like to know if there is anyone that can shed some light on my situation.. I have not called the Regional office as was requested by Rob, but my dealer has no new info on my delivery or the hold up on my vehicle.

Yes, I got confimation letters...

Nope... never changed the order from the one that was faxed in Feb 12th.

Dealer actually faxed order with my name on it... I have a copy of the order and the paperwork showing price and options, signed by me and dealer.

Just can't figure out how I could order so early in the game and how so many people that ordered several months after me already have VINS and delivery dates.

 

My order was faxed right away.. I guess it's possible. Any info about this part being out.... Wouldn't that have affected people that ordered after me as well

 

I forgot which thread it was, but someone on this board posted info that the ECU's were in short supply so there would be a delay in the production.

I also seem to recollect that someone said that the cars are not necessarily built in the order that was received since that would grossly inefficient on the assembly line (or something like that).

 

There are plenty of us who ordered very early (2/1, confirmed 2/18) that have been given October dates. There is another thread here and also on ZCAR where ZISME explains the process that was used.

To summarize, every car pre-ordered by mid-April was grouped into the first order sent to the factory. From there, the plant created its build plan based on model, geographical locations, dealer quantities, parts, etc...

While this is disappointing if you ordered early and don't get one of the first Zs, I agree with ZISME that we were promised no more than delivery between August and October, which is what we are getting. Now, having complained as much as anyone about this scheduling process, I can say that I understand and share your disappointment, but I cannot argue with Nissan's logic either.

The good news is that your order appears to have gotten into the first batch. There are others that ordered in January and their dealers didn't send the order to Nissan until May - they are going to be getting their cars in November-December! Now they have something to complain about!
