Pitty the person who actually bought this!

There is a company selling this type of product with extensive details, pictures and video here:

http://www.electricsupercharger.com/

The claim a 1 psi boost. Interesting, amusing, but not for the serious modder.

"Try" to sell? This guy actually got over a $100 for that boat part on ebay. There were 18 bids for it too!

This sounds like BS to me too, but about a month ago someone brought this same topic up on Zcar.com in the Car Chat section and some people came forward saying they bought these things and they actually worked. They said they saw slight improvements in 1/4 mile times and HP gains on a dyno. These could all be lies, but who knows, maybe it does give you a slight gain. Its funny how some parts that look stupid actually work. I know they just started selling a piece for Buick GN's that is a plate with 3 triangular holes in it that goes in the intake tract behind the throttle body that looks like it would be a major obstacle for airflow. But I saw 3 or 4 people down at GS Nationals put these things on their cars and run 1/4 mile times .25 seconds consistently less than before. I wouldn't buy one of those superchargers, but it would be interesting for someone to buy one and test it to see if it actually works.

I think having a long straw drilled into the intake and having the passanger blow into the straw would draw more hp than that crazy cpu fan. I can't believe those people actually had the ***** to post that they actually bought that. Man some people just don't get it. Guess they will never get it.

It is very plausible that it could create 1psi at the intake so it theory it is doing what they claim. This is obviously not a 20psi turbo but it is probably one of the easiest performance parts to install, low weight, and there isn't much chance it would damage the engine.

I am willing to see some independant tests because the theory is sound. Think about how much people pay for free-flow air filters to get more air through. Anything that gives more air is a good thing.

If anyone here purchases one of these, let us know what you think.

I can't remember the source ('twas probably autoweek) a while back did a feature on one of the Scandinavian automakers (Volvo, maybe?) trying to put together a concept car with an electric supercharger. The theory was sound- by using computer control and an electric motor you could vary boost based on rpm range and speed, thereby tailoring yourself a flatter power curve. However, they couldn't make it work- they found that when they used a powerful enough electric motor to actually cause significant positive boost, it pulled enough off of the electric system that they had to beef up the generator- which is belt driven- and the extra drag on the engine cost more power loss than the electric supercharger gained. They just couldn't make the system energy-efficient enough to cause any significant gain in power. That's a shame, really, because it's a neat idea.

Something tells me this little fan could never blow faster than the engine can create vacuum, especially at higher RPMs. But, who knows, maybe they beat Volvo's millions of krona in R&D with a little marine fan... I'd love to see some before/after dyno charts.

Maybe it adds HP by offering a gentle breeze on the engine?

You're probably right, this is better suited for a different forum. I didn't think about it when I posted it. I actually thought this was a joke or a scam but, after reading some of the replies, looks like there's a few compelling arguments for an electric fan after all
