Anti-theft device? Insurance discount verification
I just signed up for Travelers insurance which saved me $300 for 6 months over State Farm and on their website I indicated that my 08 Z has a anti-theft device. Now I get the vehicle anti-theft device verification form which asks the following:
1. Does the device disable the vehicle (is it an ignition or fuel system cut-off), sound an audible alarm, or both?
2. Is the device automatically activated when you shut off or park the car (if so, it's called a "passive" device), or do you have to do something special (flip a switch, etc) to activate it (if so, it's called an "active" device)?
3. Device manufacturer's name
4. Device model name/number and serial number.
Also, they are asking for sales slip, dealer's invoice or some other proof of installation...
I know answer to first two questions but if I do answer "sound an audible alarm" for #1 and "active" for #2... will I get less of an discount? Also, do I just put stock for #3 and #4? hmmmm
What do you guys think?

They are thinking you have an aftermarket anti-theft device (i.e. Viper alarm). That's why they are asking for the manufacturer's name, model name and serial number.
Auto insurance companies already know what OEM measures are in place and the underwriters factor that in when figuring the base price for coverage. The discount is for people that go beyond the OEM offering and add aftermarket which would increase the security and make the car harder to steal or easier to recover (i.e. LoJack). You don't qualify for a discount.

Thanks for the explanation. I am auto insurance underwriter too but we don't check for these discounts... our processing department requests these and I didn't feel like waiting 'till Monday to check at work. Thanks again
