Default When I bought my car the dealer forgot the KY jelly

Let's make a long story short. I bought my car 2 months ago and put 2k miles on it. It was under a 90 day 3k mile warranty. In those two months I put an exhaust and aem cold air intake along with other "look good" goodies. In any event after 2k miles I felt the clutch slipping. Brought it into the dealer for the repairs and they voided the warranty. SO, I got f'd by the dealer . Just had to go out and by a competition stage 2 clutch, light weight flywheel and braided line to have installed . The dealer won't even install it ! So now the install is costing $600, I'm out $1500! Dealers make me sick . Oh yea forgot to mention while they were toying with the car I was out 2 weeks without a ride Funny how the car only has 15500 miles too. Anyone else get screwed by a dealer

Read the fine print of your warranty. Some disclose that they will not cover "normal wear" parts (ie: brakes, clutch, tires, etc). This is especially true for a used car.

That does seem like a low number of miles for a clutch to be worn out. Maybe either you or the previous owner were hard on it?

But no, I havent been screwed by a dealer. And I would never go to a dealership to have aftermarket parts installed.

oh no the dealer isnt installing them! The shop installing it told me it's not unusual for the clutches to go out at around 16,000 miles. He said he has done a few of them already. Can't wait to get the new setup in there. Should be wicked!

Common for them to go out at 16K miles???? Total BS.

I know dozens of Z owners, some with 60-100K miles on their 350s and none have had the clutch "go out". For one to fail at 15K miles it would have to be the somewhat rare factory defect or the more common driver abuse.

I am going with the rare factory defect. As a Z car driver I know that we a responsible drivers and obey all traffic laws.

fck a warranty....I broke a ring land with 27k miles on the motor...I just took her to SGP for a built long block and some other goodies. If you bought a Z to drive like she's meant to be driven, you're gonna burn up some parts. Gotta pay if you wanna play. If you drive like granny and don't like modding, take her to the dealer.

Wow I would be furious if my clutch went out in 15,000 miles.

Most people would and justifiably so. The problem is that he doesn't know what the first owner did for 13,000 miles.

I completely agree. I have 75k miles, with occasional abuse, and I have nod had a single issue with my clutch. The fly wheel on the other hand is a POS.

You have a letter from Nissan saying that your warranty is void? Never seen one. Please scan
and post. Thanks.

We think it's the throw out bearing that is shot not disengaging all the way and sometimes engaging. It makes a loud noise and this problem happened a few hundred miles after the noise from the throw out bearing intially started. I decided why pay all the labor and just replace the throw out bearing. Mine as well do it all and upgrade at the time!

The clutch in my Z went bad @ 6K miles. Dealer replaced clutch without charge. NEVER said it was DRIVER ABUSE either.

I can easily see that. If something fails because of a factory defect, it's usually going to happen within the first couple thousand miles.

I guess it depends on the situation (defect found) but usually things controlled by you are never under warranty. You can burn a clutch in a day, let alone 2K. No one knows how you drive, and even if you know how to drive. Hence why there's no warranty on clutches. I know after i install them, i don't warranty them.

Had a girl with an eclipse one year who burned her clutch. Parents paid for a new one and all the works. 2 weeks later she comes back like its slipping again, and it was my fault. she had burned the clutch again. Not my Problem, learn how to drive!!!!

Please explain how they voided your warranty or the reason they gave for as to why they think they were able to.

Straight from the Nissan Warranty FAQ page:

Your Nissan New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover repairs for damage or conditions which are determined to be due to the installation or use of non-Genuine Nissan Accessories available at the time you order or purchase your new Nissan, as well as after purchase from your Nissan dealer.
(Click the link that says "Can I modify my vehicle or add accessories...")

This DOES NOT say that the entire warranty on your vehicle is void if you installed a part that they do not agree with.

The extended warranty terms are exactly alike. I can even scan you a page from the booklet and papers I signed. As long as your part doesn't cause the defect that you're trying to correct, they can't void **** and don't let them fool you into thinking that.

If, however, you bought your warranty from some sleaze-ball dealer, then don't expect it to be honored anywhere or the same terms / conditions to be applied.

Oh, you'll know.

You'll be driving along in 5th or 6th, step on the throttle, and the tach will go up, but the speedo doesn't.

That's what happens when the clutch slips. It'll be pretty obvious.

ic thanks a bunch. I was wondering if there was another way to find out because won't it be dangerous to drive once the clutch gets to that point?
