I've noticed the outside temperature reading is usually +/- 5 degrees from the actual temperature which made me wonder....where is the thermometer where the readings are coming from? I would assume it's not too close to the engine, etc.

 

In front of the radiator, so if you are sitting still it might be higher due to engine heat.
