Insurance Coverage at the Track...
In a previous thread, Raceboy comments that due to the non-competitive nature of most track days (aka "lap days") the driver/owner's regular car insurance will cover a damage claim. This is something of a surprise as I had simply assumed that all insurance coverage stops the moment we drive onto the track. I have totally enjoyed two track days (Infineon and Laguna Seca) but would have driven much harder if I could count on recovering 30K in the event of a mishap. Are there any insurance experts out there that can confirm that coverage extends to track days (BTW, my carrier is Allstate). Also, assuming cancelation following the claim, is it reasonable to expect another carrier would be willing to insure the car and driver? Thanks for your comments!

Just because your not on the road doesn't mean anything. Most parking lots are private property as well and you would be covered if you had an accident there. I guess you just have to read your policy very carefully. I have had my State Farm policy reviewed by a lawyer friend of mine and he believes they would have to cover me.
