This is what the seller said, "-Im asking only 14,800 Car has well over $15000 Invested, look up the parts and see for yourself, its a must see car. Its starting to make a grinding noise in in first gear when you take off but it goes away once the car starts rolling, this could be the clutch or the gear wearing out, if it ends up needing a transmission in the future they only cost about $500 so its a cheap fix, there dime a dozen. The car has 140k im only asking $14800 obo

Uh, really? Only $500 to fix, and its a cheap fix?? LOL, i highly doubt it as i think this is the real reason why the seller wants to get rid of it because its "expensive as ****" to fix the transmission. And 140k Stillen Z for almost $15k that potential buyers have no clue whether the seller has abused the crap out of the car?? Only idiots would buy this Z that has been abused like as if there is no tomorrow. I'd say FAIL!!

it isn't 500 bones to fix, nor is it "expensive as ****"... my parts girl quoted me $1200 for a new OEM trans from Nissan. $1200 + about 3 hrs of my time to install is not "expensive as ****"

Wow big baller. You must be rolling big time if you don't think $1200 is "expensive as ****" And 3 hours of work that equals to how much for labor? If its not expensive, then why not Nissan voluntarily recall all of the Z's that have tranny issue? And in some instances, Z owners have been given a hard time when there is an issue? Because it is very expensive to fix, and it takes time. Not everyone is big baller like you who can dish out $1200 easily for a brand new tranny, if that is true.

I priced out a tranny before doing my motor build/twin turbo setup. wanted to know the pricing on a tranny upfront.

"expensive as ****" is subjective, but considering a set of volks will set you back around 3 grand, as will a decent suspension setup, 1200 for a tranny really isn't that expensive. There are countless members on this board rolling on volks, some with multiple sets. I don't understand how I am a 'big baller' because I don't consider $1200 for a new trans "expensive as ****"? Price out trans for other makes and models of cars, and I think you will find it a bargain.

As for why nissan wouldn't voluntarily recall all transmisions is pretty obvious why they wouldn't. Last I checked a business is in business to make money. Besidess, I am sure we all know someone running an '03 with an orignal trans in it.

1200 Grand going toward something else sounds better to me! If the seller is talking about what i think he is, it has NOTHING to do with the Tranny. I had the same problem but it wasn't quite an exact grinding, sounded kinda like Chains dropping. Anyway to OP, 140k miles on a Z is not exactly what you should invest your money into. take that 14 grand and put a down payment on an HR, just my 0.02 . To each his own.

I dont think so, if the body is good all it takes is a minor engine rebuild and youre good as new.

$14,000 seems like a good deal, if only he didn't lie about the transmission costing only $500 to repair...
