First Time driving a 350Z (or what 350z not to buy from GPN)
I'm the kind of guy who always wants "The Car of the Week" as my wife calls it. It's always something different or some car with this kind of modification or engine swap or something. But since I used to own an 85 300zx, I've got a sweet spot in my heart for a Z car. (And an mr2, but that's a different forum).
To start off, Saturday morning I went to my mother’s house to help chop up a tree that had fallen earlier in the week. That said I was not looking pretty. Ratty shirt, ratty jeans, messy shoes, you get the point. So After helping with that I go over to the apartment of a buddy of mine. And after messing around, we decide to head over a look at the rx8. We, go over to Rick Case and being the way I looked, no one wanted to sell me a car. This was fine since I wasn't impressed with the rx8.
So I drag my buddy down to Gwinnett Place Nissan just a few blocks down to look at the 350's. (I'd sat in one back in the auto show in March, but never got to drive one.) And of course a saleslady came up to me and introduced her self, yadda yadda yadda. I tell her I'm interested but was still at least 6 months off. She offered to let me drive one. I was shocked! But agreed anyways. So a copy of the license, and I'm off in a SS base 5sp.
It took me a while to get used to the clutch and the view out the back and was only able to drive for 5 miles or so and didn't feel comfortable really ragging the car out with her in it. (Don’t worry my ragging out is not really that bad) But we get back and she say's that If I want to bring my wife back on Sunday and have proof of insurance, she'd let me take it out for a couple of hours.
So Sunday after Church, I promise my wife I wouldn't buy it (yet) if she would come with me to go drive it. She agreed and we stopped by there a little after lunch on Sunday.
Now I can get a really get a feel for the car. THIS THING PULLS!!!! I'm sure you know that as you drive the thing all day. But since I currently drive an 18 year old 4banger, this torque-thing is really awesome. You could just use 6th gear all the time! Heck I even did a 2nd gear start and then changed to 6th. I didn't really do too many redline pulls, but I revved it enough to understand that I would never need anymore power in my life if I just had this car. I really couldn't corner to much in the car (my wife get's carsick when I drive) but that said the corners I did take were considerably faster then any other car I have owned, and the wife hardly noticed the speed (i.e. it
Didn’t make her sick).
Also when we were out driving, we passed a gentleman in a 300zx who could not keep his eyes off the car.
All in all, it's an awesome car and I want one. I'll take ppw 5sp enth. Now I just have to come up with a 7000 down payment to make the payments affordable.
And the bestest part ever! I went home to change out of my Sunday cloths and the 350Z smell was still in my shirt. I took it off and buried my face in the shirt and tried to hold on to my day of glory.
Someday.....
