Tell them that you are an undercover police officer that needs the Z vehicle to drive around.

Make sure your "friend's" "friend" does not "find" the key and make off with the car.

o ya i've been worried about that. i tried to get the car in my garage but the incline makes it hard plus the wheels are slightly turned and locked. I've been parking my other car right on the bumper so it cant be moved.

so i called another nissan dealer. He was having trouble loggin onto the keycode system so he called nissan corprate and had them run my vin. They are saying the same thing the other nissan dealer and two other locksmiths said. The original dealer never put the keycode into the system. They said it's rare but does happen.

Now i have a locksmith coming out and manually making a key for $300-$350. The price sucks but I'll just be happy to be able to drive my car and have the other key cancelled out so if someone does have my keys they can't start it.

this plus my mail box key, community pool key key, and having to change my home locks SUCKS. I never thought losing your keys could be such a problem. Good thing my office has card keys or my boss would be pissed.

my "friend" seems to wanna cooperate in paying but it's hard to get money from someone who really doesn't have it. I'll get something now and some payments for sure.

Chalk this up to a life lesson. I'll NEVER give my keys to anyone else again. "Dude i left my phone in your car, let me get your keys"..."uh ya your gonna have to wait til i finish this game of madden and i'll go it."

the guy should be at my house mid afternoon. I'll post after that.

Nice. I would have had him pay in some form. What ever way you decide, please keep to yourself. It may not be suitable for half of us straight guys... aherm... Z owners.

I have two seperate keychains for this reason. It's irk me too much to lose my house/mail/family/friend's keys along with my car keys.

i know...

so I'm driving my car again. and let me tell you it's true that you don't know what you got til it's gone. I've been driving my 98 mustang around for the past few days. I haven't drove it since i bought the Z. getting back in the Z has been great. Starting it up felt like the day I bought it. I was so happy I forgot about the $350 i just paid the locksmith. o and it took him like an hour and a half to do. $200 an hour is ridiculus.

I don't see how people up north can store the z all winter and drive a beater. I would hate it. I understand you wanna keep the z same but damn. I was going through withdraws and it was only 4 days.

Thanks for all the replies. I will guard my keys with my life now. I suggest you all do the same. Especially if you have only one set and the dealer forgot to put your keycode in the system. haha...

I locked my only set of keys in my Z a few weeks ago and had to call "Pop a lock" to come get them out. Cost me 50 bucks. I was thinking i should at least have another remote so that all i had to do was use it to unlock the car to get to my keys instead of having to pay someone. If i lose my only set of keys im gonna be screwed too.
