listen you gotta go to a dealer and see what they will give you. Most dealers don't go by kbb because they add in the cost of gas and most dealers do it by miles, condition, past...carfax. I bet a dealer would give you about 18-20k for it.

You really shouldn't be buying a sports car and trading it in every two years. Most people who do that don't really love cars and i don't think people who don't love cars should drive a nice car. Or if you do take a lease out cuz your stupid if you only want a car for 2 years and buy it.

I just traded in my 03 for an 08 and they gave me 12,800 for my trade.

74,500 miles on the clock, but you'd never know it until you looked at the OD

Dealers will rape you on a trade-in, especially if they know you are desperately wanting a certain new vehicle. But in the current economic situation, the salesperson is also desperate to sell a new car so they'll bend over backwards nowadays to give you a good deal.
+1, that is how I got my other car recently. My Z is so well taken care of that if I sell it I probaly get more than kbb, but I don't care of the value of my car because I buy it to love it. One day my Z is going to be worth blue book for $10K and I wouldn't care because I bought it knowing cars will drop in value in time. Some just aren't enthusiasts!!!!

When I bought it, I had every intention of keeping it for years. That's why I bought new, not used. Three motors and two tranny's later, I've changed my mind.

Have you checked the lemon laws in your state? I would think you'd qualify for a free new car.

He Will? Only if he's an idiot. I would never pay over what a car is worth.. Especially these days but you can keep living in that little fantasy world if you'd like.

The real question is "what is a car worth?" KBB, NADA, etc., just gives you a starting point. There are too many variables to really narrow down a cars' worth. Ultimately it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

resale value only has meaning to a "seller"

Since I am not selling this drop in value has no affect on me, my car or my payment.

What???

Not to crack on your writing and comprehension of the English language, but a double negative statement equates to a positive conclusion.

Oh here, this will help you:

You couldn't have been more right. I am a salesperson at a dealership and I know pretty much to the T what people will offer you on your Z. NADA is more or less the closet to the value you'll get. As far as "WOWZA! ZOMGZ IT'Z 16KZ!," that's probably the more untrue statement in this thread. A dealer can show you anywhere from 16 to 24 if he really wanted to. What will he end up doing? No one knows. It is how your car is portrayed, what it looks like when it gets there, how it runs, etc. They can give you all the money or half. It's at a dealers digression.

You must be a salesperson if you think what "a dealer can show" has anything to do with what they're actually paying.

If my trade is worth $16K and you, as a dealer, give me $26k for it but overcharge me $10K on your new car so the bank will swallow it, you're still only giving me $16K for my trade.

Not 100% true but some what true. A dealer will NEVER EVER EVER take 10K off a car unless the car is some retarded piece of crap that no one in their right mind would ever want. Let's say... a HEMI right now?

Anyways, you can TELL a dealer straight up what you want for your trade. If they want to do it, they will. They won't "show it" to you; from there, they will or won't.

The fact is you're arguing over a car that you bought to have fun with. If you are worried about resale, do you research and get something different because a sports car isn't something you should be driving.

WOW! 90% of you are totally missing the point of this thread. Think mid-90's.

The point is to show a car depreciates? That's common knowledge. No car is going to be worth what you paid for it in a normal circumstance. Right now, the only cars holding good resale are 4-cylinder sedans with low miles and hella gas mileage.
