Default 2006 or 2007

Ok. I've been waiting a long time to buy a Z and I want to make the right decision. I have two cars here. Both are Silver Touring Editions with black interior. One is a 2006 with 12,000 miles for $20,000. The other is a 2007 with 25,000 miles for $24,000. The 2007 used to be a rental car for Hertz. The 2006 was a 1 owner car. I like the hood buldge on the 07 Z better than the hood of the 06. I don't hate the 06 hood, I'm just indifferent to it. So what do you guys think? If you say one car over the other please explain why. Thanks

Personally I'd talk the 07 owners down. or look for another 07.

Rental car= everyone drove it like it was stolen. so not a great thing.

BUT, the 07 motor is superior to the 06 motor. many 06's have oil consumption issues from what Ive read online. no personal experience there.

Rough call. Is the 2006 a manual transmission? If so then beware of the oil consumption (what WTX is talking about). If manual trans, run a search in this forum on "oil consumption" and you will have a months worth of reading to do, all regarding '06 manual trans cars. I am on my 2nd engine now due to this. If its an auto then you are in the clear.

Do you have plans to do any mods to the Z you get? That might help your decision as well due to available upgrades as the engines are different.

The '07 must be an automatic if it was a rental. Better engine than the '06, but again like WTX said....you have to think that people hammered it as a rental.

If it were my choice....I'd probably lean towards the '07 and some upgrades.

They are both autos. I don't plan on doing any mods. Currently, I drive a 2000 celica gt with a whopping 140 horses so 300 should feel like a dream.

i'd prefer the '07 for the newer engine over the '06. test and see how it runs though

DO NOT underplay the 06 oil consumption Rev up motor issues. Check if it ever had an issue, it may have been handled. There was a bad ring issue in many 06 and 05 Anniversary models with the Rev up motors (but not all of them). The 07 is more powerful but as written earlier, it may have been beaten up a bit as a rental car. I'd probably still go with a rental over a Rev up motor; you're under warranty.

2007
Reasons?
1) HR motor.
2) No oil consumption
3) HR MOTOR
4) doesn't burn oil
5) HR MOTOR

Ok. I'm sold on the 07, but I'm going to wait until I can find an 07 with all the stuff that I want and at my price point. Better to wait a little longer and get exactly what I want than to settle for something over a couple g's. Thanks, everyone for your input.

I know that situation. Maybe the used '07s will come down as the '09s hit the showroom floors?
